Almost 2lakhs ex for a 155cc single churning 18bhp is a new high for inflation. No matter what tech it packs, can not digest that the FZ25 OTR is same as the R15 ex.

KTM RC 125 with 125cc engine, producing 14 bhp with much less features retails at 1.9 lac ex.

True and the sales speak for themselves. I think the 250 and 390 are their highest selling models in that order.
Even otherwise, the 125 Duke just doesn't make sense at that price.

I would like to know the stats for MT15 vs the R15 - haven't seen too many new R15s lately but MT15s are many!

My point was, R15 though priced at premium, justifies the price tag. The Duke 125 on the other hand is grossly over priced for what it offers.

R15 sells more than the MT15 in reality. R15 has been managing 6k units per month since the v4 was launched. The MT on the other hand does 4k.

Re: 2023 Yamaha R15 and R15 M launched at Rs 1.81 lakh

I have been eyeing the R15M, to replace my decade old CBR250R. I know it would be a step down in power, but with the Interceptor being the most used for highway runs, the R15 could help me with city runs.

The 2.3L OTR price is what makes my eyes water though

Same here, It's actually 2.4L on road which is roughly same as the Gixxer 250 sf.
But if you are ready to let go the looks and tech of R15M, you can get the R15s-matt black at almost 40k cheaper. Same engine but 0.2hp more than the R15M (Yes, Less money more power). Also, you can carry a pillion more comfortably due to Single seat if he/she is brave enough.

Since Honda did not bring the CBR150, there is as such no direct competition for the R15 in the liquid cooled 150-160cc segment. And they are enjoying it by increasing the price with every iteration.

Altough, for the city the MT-15 would be more suitable, which has slightly more power, weighs a bit less, and now has Dual-Channel ABS too.

I found the pillion seat to be too tiny. And also, I prefer the forward-leaning position of the R15 / CBR, as I have the Interceptor to do the relaxed highway cruising.

Rode MT-15 few days back and was grossly disappointed. Acceleration or rush is no where near CBR 250R's level. Don't know how R-15 would feel? But a 150cc for over 2lakhs is way overpriced, IMO. I bought my CBR around 2.11 lakh back in 2016.

Maybe, you should consider other naked bikes that have clip-ons for your preferred forward-leaning riding position

The lower power figures have been on my mind for sometime (especially considering what we are paying for the bike) and to add insult to the injury, Yamaha dealers in Chennai do not have a bike for test ride. Checked with 4 different dealers and all of them have no bike.

They want us to spend 2.2 lakhs without even a test ride! Quite an expectation they have.

Actually finding a proper replacement for the CBR250 is quite difficult in the current market. R15 will also feel underpowered to you. You can try the NS/RS200 from Bajaj, KTM RC200/390 or the Suzuki SF250. These are the only faired bikes in this range as per my knowledge.

Took a test ride of the RC200 last month, since all reviews were praising its handling while calling out the CRB250R as a lazy handler, I expected a lot. But the direction changes felt very similar to my CBR. Also, still not able to digest the rear look of the new RC, front I have made peace with.

Pulsars I feel do not have the finesse or the durability of the other global competitors, hence have not put them on the list.

Should check out the Gixxer SF250 next.

Yes, finding a replacement for the CBR is a really tough task :(
