Re: Royal Enfield Classic 650 caught testing in India | Edit: Now launched at 3.37 lakhs

Any comparison between the 650 Super meteor vs the Classic 650?

There is a Bullet 650 coming as well. I feel it might end up being the best selling cruiser 650 platform among the Classic, SM and Shotgun. It has a genuine pillion seat that doesn't look like an afterthought. At this point, they have too many cruisers with little differentiation and they'll end up cannibalizing each other's sales.

Next to the Continental 650 and the Concept Shotgun 650, I do think Bullet 650 is a good-looking one, for the same reason of less 'afterthought-ness'. But I'm not so sure about best selling; I'm afraid RE might slap a Constellation Tax on it and sell for a premium. I for one will still be willing to pay, if I'm in the market for one by then. I hope they solve the chassis issue though. An engine mounting point so close to the head looks weird/odd/unfamiliar. I think this is an after-thought too, to mitigate 'chassis breaking', that happened with a Interceptors, somewhere around the neck region. A proper/familiar single down-tube will certainly add to the retro look of the Bullet/Constellation 650.

It was good to lead the 650 segment with the INT and GT 650's but somehow somewhere the plot became needlessly convoluted like TENET. Bullet 650 releasing shortly after the SM650 would have generated sales thru the door but sadly we had to wait nearly 8 years for this to materialize. Better late than never. I guess finally we can sing " Naan raaja", vijay sethupathy style ( Song name hey mama from movie Sethupathy).

Jokes aside, if priced below INT or at par, they have a winner.

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 650 caught testing in India | Edit: Now launched at 3.37 lakhs

Is there a table which compares the 650s price, kerb weight and useful features (the RPM pod is must need) which is missing in all variants other than Interceptor and GT.

I rode the Interceptor for a good distance, booked twice and cancelled when launched. (Was blown away when I rode the first time). Obviously reality kicked in after brain started to work and said no with heart still wanting.

Very well summarised. I have been scouting for a nice "smaller" company for my Versys 1000, and Classic 650 (on paper and Youtube videos) seemed to be apt choice. However, my observations were as below when I checked it out in Dommasandra, Bangalore showroom last week - sorry no pics:
  • Saddle is higher than the Classic 350, I was not very much in-control with my 5'8" height; was able to manage both toes on ground though
  • Motorcycle is very heavy at standstill
  • Engine note is good, BUT it seemed to be a mismatch with the form of this motorcycle - may be psychological but for me a long stroke deep thump suits this form better rather than the aggressive idling of the parallel twin
  • Upright seating, heavy weight, heat from the 650 and legs at perfect position to receive all the hot air makes it hard to fit my requirements of city riding (office commute is 26kms a side in Bangalore).

I will go ahead with Bullet 350 instead!

My favorite picture so far has been this one below from Vikrant Singh - Can totally imagine this bike in the garage at home, just waiting to be admired.

One bike where the riding experience can wait

They are releasing them now because it has reached the end of its life cycle. The big bore 750cc with twin disks have been spied many times now. So 650cc will come only in SM650+CL/Bullet 650+Shotgun while Inty/Conti will shift to 750cc

You got me excited with this. I sent my person to a known fella in Chandigarh from whom we have picked our bikes, including the Explorer in Nineties

Sadly, he has only one in this scheme and is offering the greenish one, which, per him, will be easy to maintain for someone like me. But I am not sure. He needs two weeks to deliver the black-chrome combo.

There is this vintage parallel twin bike of RE's called the Constellation. RE had trademarked this name recently. So, the expectation is that RE will release a similar looking 650, which can be called Bullet 650 or Constellation 650.
