Rumour: Royal Enfield developing a new 750cc platform According to a media report, Royal Enfield is working on a new platform (codenamed: R) for its upcoming range of bikes. The 'R platform' is said to use a 750cc twin-cylinder block. It is expected to debut in 2025.
The R platform is expected to spawn a new premium range of bikes that will be positioned above the current models in Royal Enfield's line-up. The first motorcycle to use the new R platform is likely to be a 750cc Bobber. Codenamed R2G, the new bike is said to be under development at the company's tech centre in Leicester, UK.
Reports also suggest that the new 750cc engine is derived from the existing 650cc twin-cylinder unit. The engine is said to have been developed for markets in North America and Europe and would offer 350cc owners an upgrade option.
The reports come at a time when competition in the midsize motorcycle segment is hotting up. Triumph is set to launch its Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X in India this week, while Harley-Davidson has lined-up the X440 cruiser.
