re: 2024 TVS Jupiter launched at Rs. 73,700

Jupiter has been the class benchmark in terms of vfm, features and larger 12 inches at either ends with soft suspension set up. It is the best 110cc scooter in our market IMO.

Its a cost cutting measure. I am sure it can be fitted from the service center by paying an additional cost. Just like Jupiter 125.

Anybody noticed they removed the metal bag hook which is usually located just below the seat. Only the plastic L type hook in the front body is given which is mostly useless since its not as sturdy as the metal bag hook.

I'm glad to hear you're holding on to your Activa for so long! I'm not sure what's wrong with me—I end up replacing mine every three years. 😅

The piano black finishes seems to be the newest obsession and everyone are jumping on to it. It's a dust magnet and a pain to maintain. This on a scooter = disaster recipe!

Refreshing challenger to the boring Activa - how many G's would they keep on adding!

Analog console looks much better...

Perhaps could have given piano black around the digital one. No risk of scratches either.

Do these come with Combi Braking Systems? I'm in the market for an "Activa" for short market runs/errands etc., and need one with combi-braking only. Would appreciate if some options are prescribed.

OT: I've a '15 Jupiter, usage same as you, it's the best scooter I can suggest, has 12" both wheels gas filled rear shock, very comfortable on our roads, except for the yearly service, a set of tyres, a couple of batteries, were the main expenses in the 22k km journey.

BTW : I'm 64.

Ninja ZX6R is 636 CC is marketed as 600CC - https://www.kawasaki.com/en-us/motor...25-ninja-zx-6r

Panigale V4 is 1103 CC marketed as 1100CC - https://www.ducati.com/ww/en/bikes/p...nTechSpec=true

In that lines, 113 CC can be disguised under 110 CC

Likewise there are many BS6 2 wheelers at the entry level/executive level segment which have kick start lever. Heck! Even the XPulse 200 4v, a 200cc class adv also offers it.

I’m not sure about the technical logic behind that decision but when I asked the SA, he told me that H-Smart variants comes with bigger battery and never goes out of charge so we don’t need a kicker
Wow, that's a new info to me. Call it a strange coincidence or whatever, any 2 wheeler I came across after BS6 implemention didn't have a kick starter. Crazy coincidence perhaps with people around me buying those specific variants of Activa, Bajaj Avenger, Xtreme 160 4V, Apache RTR 200 4V etc that I came across, made me think the kickstarters are gone permanently since BS6 implementation.

TBHP is definitely great source of automotive learning for me

I suspect that TVS has a strong case for rationalizing their portfolio.

Reasons:

They are having too many engine types for the given sales volume. (As given below). Compare and contrast with Honda and Suzuki.

They have gone in for a new engine 113 cc (7.95 Bhp) derived from 125 cc (8.05 Bhp) engine for Jupiter 110.
This is, albeit they had a great engine in their old 109 cc engine.
The latest mileage reports in YT (to be considered with a pinch of salt) doesn't give a perceptable enhanced performance or mileage for 113 cc engine over 109 cc engine.
Raises a question will they discontinue Jupiter 125 in the current engine tune? Will they replace the old 109 cc engine with new 113 cc engine in Zest?

re: 2024 TVS Jupiter launched at Rs. 73,700

Are you one among thousands waiting to book Jupiter 110 after physicaly checking it? This is the reason why you are made to wait!

After the launch, Jupiter 110 is facing delays in getting RTO certifications (It's part of the process!). In Tamil Nadu it is expected to be available from third week of September, hopefully.

Challenges faced by OEMs in getting RTO certifications:

1. Complex regulatory framework
2. Lack of standardization across states
3. Inefficient processes and bureaucracy
4. Corruption and bribery demands
5. Limited testing infrastructure
6. High testing costs
7. Long waiting periods (weeks to months)
8. Bribery
- It's upto one's imagination how much OEMs have to pay as bribe to RTO, when there so many published vigilance reports of RTOs fleecing thousands from the poor public, leave alone one's own experience
- OEMs may pay much more to expedite the process or avoid modifications and rejections

Comparison to Western countries:

- Streamlined processes with clear guidelines
- Standardized regulations across regions
- Efficient, updated testing infrastructure which keep up to today's tech advancement
- Transparency and accountability
- Minimal waiting periods
- No bribery culture
- Use of third-party specialists to test new products of OEMs. These third-party specialists are typically independent testing and certification bodies, such as:
1. Intertek
2. SGS
3. TÜV Rheinland
4. DEKRA
5. Applus+

Reforms needed:

- Digitalization and automation of processes
- Standardization of regulations and processes across states
- Increased transparency and accountability
- Use of third party testing specialists
- Improved testing infrastructure
- Anti-corruption measures
- Training and capacity building for RTO staff
- Public awareness that a part of what they pay as product price is actually an apportioned bribe to RTO
