Upgrading / Modifying RX-135 fellow members,
I have an Yamaha RX-135, bought in 1999. Its been used quite a bit, and has also had extended periods of lying unused (while I was abroad) and also for long stretches in between, during monsoons etc.
Bike is entirely stock. Only thing (sadly important thing) changed is the piston.
The bike has not been used now for quite some time. Still runs though. But its rusted in some places quite badly, rattles a lot, engine is putting out nowhere the power it used to as new.
I was wondering if restoring this bike along the following lines makes sense : - All new electricals and switchgear, including headlights, flashers, battery etc.
- Paint Job
- Chrome Job
- Disc brakes up front
- Gas shocks at rear
- New exhaust. (Stock is damaged / deformed due to an accident)
- Adding a fifth gear
Of course, all of this only makes sense if the engine itself is in a fundamentally good condition and can be brought back to reasonably optimum performance levels. If yes, then what kind of expense do you guys think I am looking at ?
I was contemplating getting this done at Mubarak Auto (opp CrossRoads / AC Market area).
Any suggestions on someone else I should consider ?
Looking forward to your advice and comments. |
