guys i want to paint the engine area of cbz in matt black. any suggestions?

Powder coat the engine in black. Painting i wouldn't recommend as it will flake off in time.

any details on powder coat. cost etc.

I did powdercoat the engine of my Zma for Rs. 900 with assured good quality paint.:)

Hi did you dismantel your engine? Cause I want to do it on my Zma as well.

Thats great man. I got my alloys painted matte black. So he painted the engine and other parts too. But not that great looking. Guess I'll get a better work once I get to Chennai. :D

No dismantling of the engine. Just spraying directly on the engine.

Majority of paints are poor conductors of heat. I suppose it would be fine if you live in Jammu/Kashmir..

How on earth did you manage to "Powder coat" your engine by just spraying it without dismantling??:confused:

And Ravi, powder coating cannot be done with "Paint".

Yeah! Just siad the 'paint' to speak in understandable terms.:)

even my mechanic told me that i will have to dismantle it before painting. he said the cost would be 1000rs. but i am not sure whether he was talking about painting or powder coating

It is recommended that you dismantle the engine before you powder coat the engine.

Powder coating procedure involves heating the surface. And while doing the rubber parts like o-rings and oil seals might degrade.

Powdercoating or painting your engine block is a bad idea in air cooled motorcycles.

Unless you use paint or resin specified for use on blocks or exhausts with a high heat transmittance, you will end up with an engine that will be operating at much higher temperatures due to the retention. Sure fire way of getting fewer hours out of the engine.

In most of my air cooled bikes, I actually sand blast the blocks to remove junk, paint etc (aluminium blocks)

Stick with whats on your block from factory.

Powdercoating does not require any heating of the surface. It is just a direct spray. So far, I have not faced any problems regarding engine heating. I have gone for long rides many times (400 km in a day at 110 kmph) and never faced any excess engine heating problem. Once after riding for 150 km continuously at 110 kmph, I checked the heat of the engine and compared with a P220, which has very much hot engine then mine.

My bike is running absolutely fine.:)
