As my quest for Yamaha motorbikes continued,I spotted a nice RX-Z 5-Speed in a rather good condition.
My mechanic quickly assessed the engine strength and gave me few indications where i need to get orginality replaced to match my taste.
After a month of refurbishment and restructuring of head to toe,the bike is restored to mint condition.
Voila here it is :

Its getting really difficult to get hold of the parts.

I'm still waiting for the oil pump (for the auto lube) and the front visor and indicator set. Still no luck.

Plastic parts are next to impossible to get hold of.

Still its one nice bike.
I've been having one from 1997 Dec.

Is it a 5 speed ?
I thought 5 speed came with disc brakes and that funny looking silencer.

Congrats, originally its not a 5 speed its a 4 speed, the owner might have converted to 5 speed.

Nice fun motorcycle, I have some nice memories of being pillion on one of these back in late 90s. Used to love the integrated tail light back then, was one of sleeker designs back then.

One of my fav bikes, not only because it looks good, but also because when i was in 6th std, i use to own a sunny and was always short of fuel since my dad use to give me just 50 bucks a week as fuel allowance. So, this is were my criminal mind come in picture. There was this RXZ always parked next to my sunny in our appt. So i used to steal fuel from the bike and pour it into my bike.

The owner of the bike always thought that it was giving him very low FE. I hope he is not reading this....HA HA.

from the pics it looks like this is the first model. They launched an upgraded model sometime in 2002 -2003 with disk breaks which used to come in std voilet color. Why didn`t you go for the disk breaks too considering you did all the other mods??

The real 5 speeds had a different silencer,Clutch cover and front disc brakes,and those are selling for unbelievable premiums.

Yes, but the RX-Z sells for prices close to 40K to 55K(for the new 5speed varient) but the old Rx-100s and RX-Gs are of very little value now close to 10 to 15K

Congrats Hillram, that is indeed a RXZ in good condition you have managed to get your hands on. How much did it set you back by? I have a '97 model that has now got the new model's bore, but with the stock 4 speed gearbox. Make sure you treat her as carefully as possible as parts for the white model are nearly impossible to find. One still gets parts for the 97 maroon model and 01 blue, and sometimes for the black.

Congrats once again Ram. I remember congratulating you about a month or so back when you had bought the bike. Good that the bike is in your stable now.
