Vespa top speed

What would be the top speed for an India Manufactured Vespa Scooter?

Like the LML Vespa?

What about the Fastest Bajaj Scooter?

Am not referring to what the speedo mentions as the highest speed, but what the manufacturers mention as the top speed.

Could someone help me with this.

Feel it must be about 80-90 kmph max as the 100 cc two stokes bikes had a max of 110 - Ex - Yamaha RX100 and they were more modern than the scooters.

Am not referring to the gearless vaiety?

Have got a fun bet running with a friend.

i have personally done 100 KMPH on our LML NVSpl. this was back in 1999 i think on my way to chandigarh.

and my 1985 Bajaj Chetak used to handel roughly about the same but this is all according to the speedo.

apparently if given time the Chetak used to cross the 100 mark and get near the 105.

--------------

as you have talked about the 2 stoke bikes. with gps i have check my rx100 it was 102 KMPH on the NH8 this was the strech back to delhi after coming down from the radison flyover and we started from the stand stil till the domestic air port exit. there was no cross winds that day.

on my converted rx135 - 5 speed till date i have managed no more than 115 kmph and this was with the RX 100 clutch.

Vespa 150cc scooters(NV, T5, Select etc) had an official top-speed of 85 km/h. My T5 used to hit 80+(indicated) pretty easily.

For both LML Vespa as well as the Bajaj Chetak, it would be around the 90-95kmph mark, speedos would of course show it to be a bit more ! In those days, the LML was slightly quicker than the Chetak but only marginally !

I had an LML Vespa NV SPL, bought in 1996. I have seen the speedo crossing 100 kph several times. It was faster off the mark when compared with four stroke bikes like Hero Honda. I always felt after 60kph, if you twist the accelator, speed gain was like slicing through a banana.

Those days I use to do Trivandrum-Kollam rides along the two lane NH 47. There were few modern cars that time, so my run was always against the Ambys. I always managed to pull ahead of the cars and once they near me, we will be hitting some junction or traffic pile up.

LML is definitely quicker than Bajaj. One more thing, the ride and stability in an LML was much comfy and confidence inspiring than a Chetak. I still remember reading about the monsoon scooter rallies where LML use to win in the geared section.

I use to take 1 hour 40 minutes during the rides from my Trivandrum home to my moms' place in Punalur, some 80 kms away during the late 90s. Now in my Indica, I take close to 2 hours, even if I would be touching 100 kph in the winding roads.

I have done 100 kmph on my LML Vespa NV, the incident was in 1998 when I had a race with another friend on a Yamaha RX135.

The scooter is still in my parking due to old memories but have not driven it for the last 3 years.

Mine's a 1997 LML Piaggio Star. During it's early days, I could see the speedo north of 100kmph on many occasions. Then my brother downsized the jet. I still ride it, now it starts to gasp at 90kmph.

I remember pushing a LML Vespa select to 90 kph on NH 5. Must say it was smooth even at its top end. Would probably do 95 if coaxed. People have reported higher speeds, but these were probably speedo errors or gradient assisted.

My first scooter ride was on a vespa. Dad's office scooter.

Never got a chance to speed around as he had returned it the day he found me riding it!

Miss the vespa exhaust note!
