Help needed to decide on the RX135

Folks,

I have come across a '98 RX135 for sale here in Kolkata. It has done 56K KMs, according to the owner. I will have a look at this bike, tomorrow. Please suggest me the things to look/check for.

Also, the owner is quoting Rs. 15K for the bike. Is it worth it or should I negotiate?

I will try to take pictures of the bike tomorrow and post them here, for your reference.

--TIA

15K is too much unless its one of the best kept examples. Take pictures and post them here. Lets see what he's done to it.

+1

check whether the engine is stock.
normally you would have to spend around 2K after buying if everything is fine.

Hi Safari Lover,

With my limited knowledge after having owned an RX-135 for a long time now,a few things that I can tell you.

1) Look for the tyres. If the tyres are worn out and need to be changed, then its a high price. Since, good tyres like Moto d, ceat secura will come around rs 1200 each. Also, look for the rims if they r rusted or have a dent or hole.

2) Start the engine and try to notice the engine sound. See if its making some rattling noise and if the engine vibrates heavily when started. This may mean fault in the engine,ie piston and rings.

3) Since its a 98 model 135,the silencer will not have a cat-con.

4) Check if the meters are working properly because again, rx meters will come for nothing less rs 800.

5) Mostly all the Rx bikes have a problem while shifting it back to neautral gear.

6) While riding, you will be able to ascertain if theres a bend in the fork or not and also if the handle is ok or not.

Try seeing if the parts are stock or not.

If everything is ok, then I guess you can negotiate for something between 12.5k-14k, I guess.

Although, here in Blore the price of Rx is really high. My bike would go for atleast 23-25k.

In hyderabad one of my friend brought a 1993 RX100 for 12000 last week, everything is running fine atleast till now and it was well maintained too, Hyderabadi's just love the RX series, if that model was here it would have been sold off without any knowledge even to the neighbors.

RX135 is meant to be driven the way it should be driven, and yamaha has official plans to sell the genuine parts of RX soon in indian market, If you truly love it go for it else forget it..

In Bangalore, I have an 87 model RX 100 and I've got offers for it upto 20K, but I'm not selling ! If it is well maintained, I guess 15K is a fair ask especially if the battery and tyres are in a good condition.

Well,In that case I must have overquoted the price of my bike.Anyways, checking for the battery is a good suggestion.
However,I am quite sure that for an 87 Rx100,provided if its in good condition, you will get more than just 20k.

I think 15K for a 11 years old RX135 is OK, but you need to ride it and then judge. Do not forget to look at tyres.

@ safari_lover -

I'm not sure how to evaluate a healthy engine but I can advise you to check -

1. Engine sound.
2. Gears.
3. Front forks and vibration in handle bar, rear shocks and wheel bearings.
4. Rust inside the petrol tank, chassis, mud guards, rims, chain cover.
5. Tires.
6. Battery and electrical.

Regarding the price, I bought a just running '91 model RX100 for 14K in April this year . I had to spent around 10K to make it a daily runner. Still needs some engine work and new tires with rims.

I have a '99 model RX135 Tiger which I bought for 16K 3 years ago and then refurbished a year later. I'm getting offers till 40K for this bike. Anyways, I'm not selling it.

Prices are too high in Kerala. And the prices of OEM spares have gone up in last 1 year. If you are in Kerala, you'll never get a decent running RX below 20K .

Regards,
Jose.

Uhhh La La!!!

Hey Jose - I just had a look at your garage mate.

The Tiger looks in a pristine condition. No wonder people are willing to pay that kind of money for the ride.

Great work Sir. (Hoping you get similar results even with the RX100)

@Joseph

Bro,your bike looks amazing.it looks brand new.

However, you have mentioned your exhaust to be cat con.Are you sure? From the pics,I can see there is no cat con on your bike.
Also, the front tyres look the same as Zapper. Is Dunlop Zebra better or as good as Zapper?
Thanks
