Eko ET 120 - Indian Hybrid launched

Eko vehicles has launched a hybrid bike

World’s First Hybrid Motorcycle Heads to India | Autopia | Wired.com
Quote:
The ET-120 will be offered by Bangalore based Eko Vehicles. Developed in collaboration with US based Emerging Technologies Inc the ET-120 could set the stage to grow a grass-roots hybrid moto following rather than the trickle-down to the masses approach you’ll see with the Mission One and Mavizen.

With a tandem 70cc gasoline engine and battery system, you can expect the power and torque of a 120cc gas-powered engine.

This looks suspiciously close to the ubiquitos(atleast in TN from my last visit there) TVS 50 cc. But with a quoted 126 kms to the litre not many will complain . So is the output power a combination of both power sources or am i missing something?

Hmm... 5-yr warranty, double the pulling power, thrice the fuel efficiency - sounds like a success forumla. Hope they get the pricing & A.S.S right.

This product looks dated by at least 10 years. The FE & hybrid concepts are good, but customers have seen better design thesedays. This vehicle looks to me as a TVS moped which use to rule 10-15 yrs ago.

I don’t think going by the looks the customers will accept this product .

Seems a step in right direction. Hybrid counters the limited km range of EV's & this Tvs xl70 moped based one is claimed to deliver ~120 kmpl. Who knows, a similar Hybrid of 100cc slopers (HH who else!) having enough space to carry a battery pack (or two) below tank-seat & a motor over rear drum could be the next one.

Not sure whether this will really sell as the price is above 40K.

Cheers,
