Just came across this article & thought to share
Yamaha may resurrect RX 100 in 4-stroke

Seeing the title, you may wish to jump to skies. The most expected comeback may finally happen soon. It’s like schumacher return to F1.

Yamaha is actively working on to bring back the legendary RX100 in a different avatar. Royal Enfield has been successful in making vintage bikes to suit the young buyers and stricter emission norms.

Yamaha loves to do the same with the RX100. Yamaha is believed to be working on 4-stroke version of RX100.

Yamaha would carry the vintage styling without making any serious change. However, the 2-stroke monster will be replaced by less polluting and environment friendly 4-stroke engine.

We are keen to know the power ratings of the new RX100. Can RX100 bring back the golden era for India Yamaha ?

That's good news. Hope they retain the simple looks of the Rx100.

I personally like brute sound (stock) of the old gen Rx100. This cannot be expected out of a 4stroke engine.

this is a great news for Yamaha fans.
but as beejay said, it can never match the sweet sound of RX 100 2 stroke.

good luck yamaha!

Great News ! If they still retain the same old cosmetics, I can probably get spares for my RX 100 easily ! However, there will be a big difference between a two stroker and a four stroker, they may not be able to quite create the same old magic !

Yamaha will have to pull of a marvel of engineering to match the 2 stroke's quick and agile engine in a 4-stroke engine. Not to mention the endless modifications that the 2-stroke enjoys...from jetting, chambers, porting to performance components in the engine, the 2-stroke Yamaha's are simply a modder's wet dream. Their reliability and simple maintenance are just a pleasure to live with. I look forward to what Yamaha will offer the market, seeing the fantastic performance of the tiny engined R15, I'm optimistic about their ability to satisfy us...

Of course, I'll never part with my 4-speed RX-135 though. Emission norms be damned, they'll have to pry my dead fingers off the handlebars with a crowbar.

Cheers,
Sriku

How can an RX-100 be relaunched with a 4S engine? it sure can't be called RX then,
either Yamaha has gone mad or dreaming things, though Best of Luck in both cases:D

Did they not try to transfer the soul of the RX 100 (like they do in Avatar!) to a 4 stroker in the late nineties? Was it not called the YBX 125 or something? And they were not successful. I don't think they can this time either. Two reasons;

a) It will take a 150 cc four stroke motor to match the power / pick-up of the original two stroke on the RX 100.

b) The guttural exhaust sound of the RX 100 can never be matched by a four stroke. Man, it was pure music, next only to the exhaust note of the original (pre-cat) Shogun!

Will TVS try to bring the Shogun back in a new avatar too next?

had goosebumps all over, of almost all Indian motorcycles, she takes the cake along with Shogun,
R15/Fazer is all great when going down the 'box and blipping madly

sorry to be going seriously OT but couldn't resist, these are emotional things

... and do what with 100cc 4 stroker?

Put it among Splendors/CD100/4S and likes??

That would be too humiliating for an erstwhile champion-legend.

Just would like to give an info here - The original YBX probably the first lot of 3000 or so were Japanese makes (like the 86 Rx) & still had "Made in Japan" imprints & those were really troublefree & when it had to be opened, not all the authorized service centers had the required tools. So they were real good ones.

Mate you were spot on . The only sound that was music to ears after Yamaha RX's was the Shogun's and the Shaolin's 5 speeds .

Still it's great if they can comeback with something strong , unlike the YBX's / CRUX r's . :thumbs up

I don't think the Shaolin sounded great. But there was one more bike long before the Samurai/Shogun/Shaolin series that came close. It was called the Suzuki Supra!

its still going to be an abomination. No small four stroke can match the sheer raw power and acceleration of the two stroke. It would be like comparing the new mini and the old mini

My first ever bike!, I miss it a lot. I'll buy one for sure if it comes into the market.
