Looks like the avenger is getting a slightly bigger heart.

This is great news. I always wondered by Bajaj was short changing it's cruizer with the 200 cc when there had the 220 powerplant. It is a good option to those who don't want to deal with the unreliability of the bullet (oops did I say that out loud)

Thats nice to know. I might be in the market shortly for an Avenger or Thunderbird Twin Spark.

Ride both and see. Avenger gets sometime to get use to, sitting position and length!

A220 to cost 76K OTR? I remember paying 66K OTR for my A180.

But, once you get used to it- nothing like it. Its truly a 'feel-like-god' experience.

Although i love my P180, sometimes i wish i had bought the A180 instead (Which i didnt buy mainly because my close friend had and so i would get to ride it often).

jk: Those were old times. I paid 64k for my P180. Most of the new breed of 150s cost near 70k on-road now. A220 is immense value for what it offers, IMO.

I too don't understand why they detuned the engine on a heavier bike. Even if they decided to lower the bhp, they should have kept Torque numbers the same slightly higher. I can never understand these companies who keep doing this silly thing for no good reason.

But I do feel that if you swap out the CDI unit and carburator jetting/settings with the P220 Carb version, you can get the same output. Basically the engine block and oil cooler, transmission etc are the same so to bring it to P220 Carb power, it is pretty much the programming of the controller for the CDI unit and the carburator settings.

What do you guys think?

I am sorry guyes but i just dont understand the logic behind adding just 20 cc in the upgraded model. At this pace, It might take them 10 years or more to go beyond 500cc engine for the cruiser bikes. I myself own avenger 180 which i bought when it was newly launched. No doubts that the bike is underpowered , especially when you drive with pillon rider.I wonder how much imrpoved will be the performance with 20 cc more. But i must admit that the bike is wonderful for the entry level rider with no past riding experiance (I certainly enjoyed it to the fullest when i boufgt it 5 years ago).

I would love to see bajaj coming up with a domestically developed V twin enginee or use their collaboration with Kawasaki to make v twin cruiser bikes above 250cc.But the fact is that Bajaj is concentrating on masses and coming up with cost effective products.

I agree with you 100%. They are catering to the masses and not enthusiast.

Avenger was never a mass market bike!

As for the 20cc upgrade, the point here is that 200 engines has been discontinued in Pulsar range. Producing only few 200cc engines for Avenger every month could be more expensive to Bajaj than mass producing 220cc engines. Hence the logical upgrade to 220cc.

This is great news. I have always worshipped the Avenger as a bike ever since I rode it first 4 years back and have longing to get one soon. A 220cc powerplant is really great news. What about the power output? Somewhere near 21 bhp?

Check older posts.

What I like about the Avenger is the built quality! Mine was brought the week it was launched, nothing has failed or corroded or rusted till day due to manufacturing defect.

I even have modded the engine and have done very long rides with pillion at full throttle for hours. Really happy for the quality ,for being maintenance free.

And as was posted, mass production helps bring down cost.

And yes, atleast they could have done something about the torque.

@ Mahesh; try a RE C500 before you plunge.

@jkdas:

Can you share some light on the engine mods you did?

Hello Folks,

Not sure if this is something that has been around for while, however I came across this today so thought of starting a new thread.

220cc Avenger @ ex-showroom price of just 69K. Now thats a good deal I'd say for all the Bajaj fans.
