6k kms is too much. Most of us riders follow the following oil drain schedule:
Mineral - 1.5k-2k kms
Semi synth - 2.5k-3k kms
Fully Synth - 3.5k-4k kms.

Running mineral oil for 6k kms without change/with just top ups would ensure one ruins the engine soon.

Air filter needs changing only every 10k kms Anurag bro. Clean it once every 5k kms.
Change spark plugs every 12k kms.

Will tell you a bizarre incident with Hero Honda A.S.S, the bike had covered 5K and save it for service. The ASC guys just told they have cleaned the filter and the interval is 10K. I agreed and rode it off.

At around 9K the bike was sound like it was having a K&N filter. Opened the filter box and the paper was torn. I went back to the ASC and asked the manager what was that?! He himself was surprised and replaced the filter for free.

I don't know why but from that day I change it every 5K. :)

I agree but since it is mentioned in owner's manual, someone must be following that schedule only! Not everyone has access to Team-BHP or XBHP.

I am wondering why at all Hero (Honda) has mentioned this schedule in the manuals of its bikes.

To make money once the engine ruins by replacing parts and milking the customer as they will be following the oil change interval from the manual. :)

I fill Shell Advance AX7 semi synthetic oil which I feel smoother engine for 2k kms.
Change airfilter every 12k kms as per the manual. In fact, I have removed the snorkel connected to airfilter so that to feel increase in power.

searched but didn't find a in this long thread, I'm looking for a good learned karizma mechanic in (West) Delhi.
My Karizma is fairly old, 2005 model but has been used sparingly. But every 6-8 months the HEAD leaks for oil and I've got half engine (valve Sets etc) 3 times in 2 years.

I usually go to Castrol Service centre Mayapuri, Next to DD Motors, but would like to give someone else a better try.

Whoa.

How does the head gasket look like after 6-8 months? Did you change that? I can't find any other reason other than gasket to be the problem for the oil leak.

Well,
the gasket/O-Rings are what ussually leak, this time, the valve sets have been changed along with Timing Chain and Tensioner. The Mechanic said he got my head bolts re-honed as they were loose.

They've changed the Piston Ring also.

This has been repeating all along since I bought this bike, as the Head leakage problem exists from the very first month.

I just wanted to consult some other better mechanic so that I can save upon the undue maintenance cost. I will be changing the bike soon to Aquilla Pro, just saving some cash for the same!

Also I plan to switch to synthetic oil after around 500Kms of curing, let me know which one is better and AVAILABLE is Delhi.
Motul or Mobil-1 and Where can I grab them easily in Delhi ??

The Story:
Hero has discontinued manufacturing the ZMA-R we have been used to seeing since 4-5 years now.


Hero has this uncanny knack of bring out hideous crayon work. They have bettered themselves by adding some hideous sheet metal work too on the soon to be on the roads 2014 Karizma R


I have managed to find a dealer with the stock of the outgoing model. Have booked it.

The Scene:
I have seen a date of 11.07.2013 on the number plate (rear) on the VIN sticker. The dealer claims that the bike is virgin with the fuel pipe yet to be connected to the carb. Even the battery has not yet been connected. This bike is kept in the display lounge of the showroom. Looks clean visually save for a small cut on the seat.

The dealer has assured me to change the seat with that of another brand new ZMA-R which is there in their yard. I have seen the other 2 ZMAs in their yard and their number plates have a VIN sticker of Jan 2013 (YES, not mistaken it, its 2013 ONLY).

The Big Q:
Will a brand new bike whose mechanical parts have not been in motion from the factory have any adverse effects??

Is there a way from which I can find out the real manufacturing date apart from the VIN sticker?

Mate, leave aside the year of manufacture on this one. I seriously advice you to go for the new model which is getting launched. OR by the time you get hold of your Bike, the next day it will get obsolete. Just my humble piece of advice, ignore if you are taking for the sake of the old looks.

I have just given a token advance for a 2.5 yr old Karizma R in Bangalore. Will get hold of it tomorrow. :) Happy Motoring!

One of the most understated performer that the biking world in India had seen. I own a 2009 Black Karizma R clicked 23K kms. Still love the feeling when I ride it.

The rubber parts, seals, tyres, boots would have become brittle and would have cracks over it.

If you want to verify the VIN, try checking the DOT Code on the tyres and it should be near and around the VIN date mentioned.

Regarding the BIG question:

I don't think it would be that harmful but try getting a TD of the bike before you think of buying it.

Check a thread by MOD Ajmat on what all to look for when buying a new car with an older manufacturing date. I know that thread is for cars but you can relate it to two-wheelers also. That should give you pointers.

At the outset, thanks for your inputs on my query.

Update is, in pursuit of buying the bike on the auspicious Ugadi day, I chewed the bullet. My merciless employer also be blamed that I got no time for research (was year end and the pressure was.. enough said!) and had to just hope that the dealer doesn't give me a lemon.

I have had a fair number of irritants with the bike, which hopefully, I will be able to share in a seperate ownership thread.

The current model is just crap. You are lucky to grab the outgoing ZMA-R - the original classic Karizma!

I hope the bike is not giving you any problem considering it's manufacturing date.
