Headlight adjustments - Swadi Automobiles

Tucked away behind nana chowk in south bombay is a garage that does everything but specializes in one thing. Headlight leveling.

I bought a new set of projector headlamps for my merc and the light was going everywhere.

Swadi has a hella machine that basically has a convex lens that focuses the beam onto a paper at the back which has preset markings.

Now all the mechanic has to do is to start leveling the headlight and center it to the pre marked cross on the paper (Both vertical and horizontal adjustments to be made).

Simple.

They are very strict about appointments and timings and one needs to call them before to fix an appointment and reach on time. They will first make a job card similar to an authorized service center.

Their rates are according to the man hours taken. My vehicle took approx 45minutes of work and i was charged Rs. 550 for it.

Used to go to Swadi Automobiles ages back, and they always did a superb job on our vehicles.
Not sure how good they are at the moment, but we plan on sending our Merc there as well to get some repairs carried out. Hopefully they are as good, as they were when we used to use them.

Yes, you are right. They are the same ones. Don't know if the owners have changed though.

@ Tejas ..
Thanks a million man. I"ve been looking forever for someone with the head lamp aligner. (As anyone who reads this would probably guess, I'm quite anal about head lamp focusing ).

I've moved to Bombay recently but had this thread marked out more than 2 years ago. Finally had a chance to take my Civic across last week.
A simply wonderful experience at Swadi. I'm totally obsessed with perfecting my headlight throw and have never seen this kind of machine setup anywhere else.

They used their older Hella machine for round one of the alignment and I happen to be the very first paying customer who's car got treated to their brand new Bosch machine which gives you additional information like light intensity. Great stuff and some real eye candy in terms of vintage cars they're working on. Adding a few pictures.

Thanks for the input. Would you be kind enough to share the pricing too? I plan on doing a projector retrofit project on a spare headlamp assembly lying around and would like to check these guys out later.

I have a stock reflector setup with Philips Xtreme Vision. It was under 900 bucks if I recall right. For projectors they may charge differently. Best would be to call them. They are quite professional.
