Very interesting, thanks for sharing :thumbs up I'd be particularly interested in basic repairs & maintenance right down my house. With a tight work schedule, it's a pain to co-ordinate car drop offs & pick ups.

How do they provide painting services at your doorstep?

Sahil,I guess only the basic repairs, accessories can be done at one's doorstep. They deliver parts to one's doorstep too.
For bigger repairs and paintjobs they have their own workshop.

I needed to get my i10 AT serviced. Called up Jatin and he came home to take the car.

I wanted basic service - filters and oil change. Also the brake oil had to be topped up frequently , so I asked him to check if things were ok.

Got the car back in the evening. The car was serviced and all the filters and engine oil and transmission oil changed. Jatin was also in touch with me as there was a leak in the brake master cylinder valve adapter. He replaced the adapters instead of replacing the cylinder. All the parts used were OEM Hyundai. All the old replaced parts were returned back.

The car felt very different and peppy after the service, it never felt this way the last time it was serviced at the Hyundai A.S.S. - I felt the difference straight away but since the car is driven only by wifey - I was waiting for her reaction. She was surprised and happy at how peppy and responsive the car was.

Pros

Pick up and Drop facility
OEM parts used ONLY
You get good feedback and are kept informed whats going on
Most important - Jatin loves cars - you feel safe to give the car to him.
Competitively priced

Cons

The labour prices could be a little lower perhaps ?

My verdict - Totally recommended.

Another positive experience with Wagen Werkz happened when it was time to take a look and take care of my car as well. That will be up after the LTR of my car.

If you are getting better service than your local Hyundai stealership, why complain about the labour charge? Why not stick to your roadside mechanic if you have an issue with labour costs?

Here's what I make of Jatin and WagenWerkz from my recent trip to his place for repair/body work and a paint job.

1. Jatin does what he promises;
2. Makes sure the work is done to his level of satisfaction; which you will find is a few notches higher than your own.
3. Is easy to work with, friendly.
4. Knows a lot about cars and is a true petrolhead!

And, he doesn't mind you hanging around while your car is being worked on; not many service stations/garage owners/mechanics like that.

Overall, low on scale, but high on quality, and at a reasonable price! :thumbs up

I wanted to share my experience with WagenWerkz [Jatin Patel]; in all my years of owning various cars this experience in summary has been one with many ups and down. As an individual he is good and maybe means the right intent however he lacks experience and thoroughness. I as an individual am always been ok with someone who is young but covers up his lack of experience by qualities like attention to detail.

My experience with Jatin started when I was looking for a suspension overhaul for my W124 E220; I had various quotes ranging from 1.6 Lac to 1Lac and I zeroed in on Jatin as he was competitive on price and I assumed changing all suspension parts should be a straight forward job. Well I was quite wrong

Experience #1

Job: Change of Suspension [Full Overhaul]
Bill Amount: 1, 20,000 Approx
Parts Used: All OEM / Lemforder
Parts Scoured: Jatin

He picked up the car and returned the car after a week; all parts were changed along with New Tires and Alloy which were additional cost. My first ride back home from Mumbai to Pune left me with a sour taste in my mouth as the ride was too harsh; not what you expect if you change all bushes, control arms, sub frame mount bushes, shock absorbers and all the other rubber things; my directive was replace every rubber bush underneath the car; I called him up and told him that the car is more jarring that before; to this his Reply [Give it 500 kms the suspension will soften out] Well I never agreed to this as there is never a run-in required for suspension.
He then pointed that Blistein are supposed to be rougher than Sachs; and Blistein were my choice. Well yes as Blistein is better quality than sach from all the feedback in MB world and expensive
After me doing my own research I realized that the front blistein struts that were installed were not the right part number; Instead of Blistein comfort, HD was installed
I pointed it out to him which was then blamed on his part supplier; though he offered to change it to comfort at no cost. After a lot of thought I left it as partly I thought it was also my decision on Blistein and a genuine mistake was done.
Overall I spent 1.2 lac and never got what I wanted; left it that

Experience #2
Job: Change AC air filter, AC pressure sensor, New Speedo Cable, Headlight bulbs, paint touch, and battery tray fix as it was broken
Bill Amount: Couple of Thousands
Parts: Jatin

When the car was returned the AC became sporadic; sometimes the Blower would work sometimes it would not work; traced it to bad fitment on the switches
The Speedo cable was not routed correctly and was left hanging
Paint was not matched
Battery Tray fix was ignored all together
All the trim that was removed to access the AC dust filter was not put back properly; a rushed up job; I had to fix it all of it again myself

Experience #3
Job: Front left Mat gets damp in rain, new wiper
Bill Amount: Nothing Paid

I pointed out the front mat gets damp in rain, so it’s either the AC drain, water drains, or the battery tray that he never fixed may have rust holes from where it is leaking; he sat on the car for 4 days and by 3rd day he claimed that all is resolved. The AC drain pipe was replaced; the front drains were cleant, A new battery tray was fixed and he claims that there is no rust hole under the battery and as a precaution he has sanded any surface rust, applied epoxy and also pressure water tested it. By 3rd day he announced the water leak is fixed for good. Pressure water tested, standing in rain for all night tested etc etc
On the day of delivery when I am supposed to check out of the hotel and head back home to Pune; he calls up saying that the mat is getting wet; probably from the drain at the rear windscreen; I question why he did not check that; all he needed to do was pick up all mats and see if the foam is wet basic troubleshooting while chasing a water leak. And then all this stories start. I had enough I tell him to give the car as is; does not matter
When I get the car; the battery tray is not fixed some cock and bull story of his welder who died hence tray was never fitted; claims that rest all epoxy has been done; well I will have to check about it on the weekend. In summary no work done except a new wiper and half tank fuel used up [This is not the first time; every job means I give me half tank and it is reserve; that’s 30ltrs of fuel]

In all I have been patient with the guy three times, and spend 1.6 lac with him over the past few months; in all the three jobs he has done he has either done the following which meant that I either spent money outside to get it right or spent my weekend resolving all that he has broken
1. Put a wrong part
2. Installed the part wrongly
3. Not fixed the trims properly back
4. Forgot / ignored the job I asked him to do
5. Not trouble-shooted enough

The above makes me believe that not only he lacks experience but also lacks attention to detail and zest to do well. I am also at fault to give him 3 chances but then that’s life

I never put bad feedback about anyone; but this deserves it

PS: not to mention some scratches that were gifted which were never a show stopper

Well I don't know Jatin personally, and I'm not going to comment on no 2 and 3. But for your first experience, it might have been a genuine mistake, and he did offer to replace it at no cost. But frankly why you would give a Merc to a person not known as a Merc specialist is beyond me.

Deepak,

For a w124 or any old car, it would have been better if you went with a specialist. There are loads of them in Mumbai. One can get lots of references from tbhpians
For OE parts, its advisable you source it yourself. Have one source who"ll arrange everything for you.

What I did based on advice:

Gave the car to mechanic. Told him the parts guy is my friend and he can go and collect parts from him
Paid an advance to part supplier at Opera House and told him to keep giving parts to the mechanic. For the large chunk of major parts (including Blistein) i went myself, and the supplier arranged to send them to the garage himself. For other small parts, they coordinated among themselves.
This way i kept tab on the work and parts from both of them.

I did a suspension overhaul, a/c work and a lot of other stuff and car has been running well for over an year now.

Jatin when is WagenWerkz coming to Delhi? Here its really scarcity of good decent and honest car maintenance services.

Why shouldn't I complain ? If you get a better price wouldn't you take it?

And I will ignore the roadside mechanic comment. :)

Well why did I give my w124 to him. Well, I don't regret it. Nothing mechanic has ever being done wrong..
My issue is he is careless

After yesterday's job on wiper and water drain, I discover today morning a huge scratch on my bonnet lip. Which typically happens when you keep the bonnet up and try the wiper, it scratches the lip of a w124.

So now I have a 4 inch scratch staring at me whenever i drive. Means a bonnet repaint

He does "ok" work. But is very careless. Thats my problem

Either way the car is never going to him. He is good if you don't care about how he handles your car.

I will never recommend him to anyone

Hello Deepak,
Great to find a fellow W124 enthusiast on the forum. Having a W124 import my self and being in the process of restoring it to concourse d' elegance standards, I fully can emphasize with your quest to get your car mechanically sorted. However, please keep in mind that these cars in spite of being German are about at least a decade and a half old and require loads of patience and perseverance to get right both from the mechanics as well as the owners end.

I guess what is done is done, why don't you approach the guy from wagenwerkz (Jatin?) and get the issues solved ? I understand the frustration when there is a gap between customer expectations and the service delivered, but in my honest opinion personal attacks aren't going to solve the issue.

Please accept my warmest regards,
Adheesh Parelkar

Thanks Adhesh, I guess my emotions got the best of me; thanks for calling out the wrong behaviour

Well i think it is all a learning experience both for me & WagenWerkz

I think over the years i have got lazy and stopped doing DIY like i used to on all my bikes..

time to start again; these cars are quite simple to fix
