I have a 2007 Ford Ikon 1.3 Flair. 6 years down, no major issues. Just some small things, & once the problem with Fuel gauge which has already been discussed on a separate thread.

Recently, the car had developed Silencer problems i.e holes on the silencer pipe for which I had done welding a year back, but again the same problem erupted. Firing had changed to that of a sports car! So thought of replacing the whole unit.

I knew a FORD service center would cost me a bomb, so thought of doing it from outside. I stay in Mumbai, Goregoan East area near Dindoshi.

I got it replaced from a company who are the manufacturers of car exhausts. Had taken it for a long drive yesterday, and could feel the pick up was steady throughout the journey. I am satisfied with the job. Plus, they are giving a 1 year replacement warranty if the silencer goes bad.

Hi,

Are you sure that a hole in the exhaust will cause low power, and only when engine heats up? Could you please elaborate on the same?

The original silencer was totally gone, inside was rusted and the pipe had holes on the joint of the muffler. I can say that also because the first time when i did the welding there was the difference in the pick up. Now this new silencer the car has become more silent the before.

Just for the sake of information can you please update the thread with the prices too. ?
1. How much did the Ford Service Centre quoted for the silencer replacement?
2. How much did you finally pay for it, on getting it from outside?

I haven't checked recently the price at Ford, but i was quoted Rs. 8000/- plus fitting charges at Wasan Ford, Chembur about 6 months back.
From outside i got it done for just Rs. 3000/-, i was quoted Rs. 3500/- and the person gave me Rs. 500/- discount with fitting inclusive.
