UPDATE: Went to the service center. It was a 60k km major service (3yrs/60k kms whichever comes first) which is why the cost was higher. They checked the headlight assembly, exhaust cleaning and coating and topped up all fluids and replaced filters. I don't think the spark plugs have been replaced and will call them regarding that. The bill without E.S.S. would have come to 8140 including taxes and discounts so I guess this is a fair amount considering the work done. Thanks for your help guys :D

Since we're having a bit of a flooding issue in Chennai, I emailed Honda's CC for info on the wading/fording depth of the Brio. Someone from Sundaram Honda called and said its 165mm. Has he mistaken my question for ground clearance or does Honda genuinely feel that that's all it can do?

Unfortunately yes.

What's exhaust cleaning and coating? And E.S.S.?

E.S.S. is Honda's service programme. I forgot what it stands for, but you pay a certain amount and get a booklet which has coupons for free services, free alignment/balancing, upholstery wash and waxing. Moreover, you only pay for parts because labor is free. It's pretty good and saves me a fair bit of money.

My total bill was 6598.49. They did not include the basic service cost (4000 if I remember correct) for the 60,000/36 months service and didn't charge me for balancing and alignment. I was charged for AC cleaning and disinfectant, battery testing, diagnostics and troubleshooting, headlight and taillight treatment, silencer coating treatment, throttle body cleaning, interior enrichment and fluids. All filters were replaced for free (free parts and labor). They also replaced the transmission oil free of cost and serviced the brakes.

The car felt significantly different after the service. I hope this helped :)

All of these are unnecessary as part of a routine service. Your bill would have been significantly lower had you not opted for these add-ons.

My Brio's rear glass hatch has shattered in an unfortunate rear-ending by a drunk biker. The shocker is that a fairly essential part as this is not in stock at any of the service centres in Chennai, and the only pro-active workshop offered to source it in 10 days. Is there a faster route to get the glass? I had no luck at Windshield experts either.

I have to say the Honda experience has been very very underwhelming so far.

Any news on minor face lift for Brio?

I am expecting it in the new year. Upgrade of the dash, replacement of the normal AT box with a CVT, and some other minor things. Possibly more widespread availability of the Heated Rear Screen, etc. Another change can be a 2-DIN touchscreen, possibly with reverse camera/sensor, and GPS in some variants. The Jazz has S, SV, V and VX versions. Expect something similar.

There is already a new version VXBL which has Audio/Video screen and full black interiors though this is not a facelift.

I was hoping for better side view mirrors that are adjustable from inside, start/stop button , etc

I like how Honda clearly displays weight differences between E, S and V versions considering their features. For other companies like Maruti Lxi and Zdi all weigh the same.

@aerohit; Sideview mirrors are internally adjustable (electric at that). My Brio V AT has them. They are not auto fold, but I hear that too has been fixed.

Planning to buy BRIO as a second car, dealer only got SMT version but I prefer VMT - because it has ABS/EBD and alloys and other minor stuff.

Now, I want to know if there any big difference in terms of brake feel between Brio with ABS/EBD and without.

Also there is a discount on SMT. If i go for VMT then I will have to wait till mid Jan and also price sheet will be different.

In their latest study, J.D. Power shows how the manufacturing quality of cars has significantly improved in India in the last 5 years. The study covers areas pertaining to defects and malfunctions of over 200 problem symptoms covering eight vehicle categories. The study is now in its 19th year and is called J.D. Power 2015 India Initial Quality StudySM (IQS).
It is based on evaluations from 8,438 vehicle owners who purchased a new vehicle between November 2014 and July 2015. The study includes 69 vehicle models from 17 makes. The study was fielded from May 2015 to September 2015 in 30 cities across India. It measures problems owners experience with their new vehicle during the first two to six months of ownership and examines more than 200 problem symptoms covering eight vehicle categories as follows:

• Engine and transmission
• HVAC
• Driving experience
• Vehicle exterior
• Features, controls and displays
• Vehicle interior
• Seats
• Audio, entertainment and navigation

All problems are summarized as the number of problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower PP100 score indicating a lower incidence of problems and better initial quality. Problems related to defects/ malfunctions account for 52 of the total PP100, a 26 PP100 decline since 2011. Design-related problems, such as features difficult to use and excessive fuel consumption are at 36 PP100 in 2015, down marginally from 38 PP100 in 2011.

The difference between ABS and non ABS is zilch until (God forbid) you need it.

Before, the ABS kicks in there is no difference.

I am buying a Brio, I have made payment to dealer, delivery will happen next week, meanwhile i got automated sms from Honda for customer feedback. The sms had login and password with login representing VIN number and pass representing engine code. I discovered that this is April 2015 manufactured. 9th letter D, 10th letter F. Should I accept the car?

I will be reluctant with a car with a manufacture date of over three months ago. If nothing else, the features could have changed. Mostly they are adding some more toys all the time, though occasionally some things may be removed.

FYI, although there is no temp guage, it does have overheat warning light. Better than not having gauge at all!

Most probably you will never see it lit in your lifetime.
