Re: Hyundai Sonata : Official Review

Has anyone on Team-BHP bought the 2012 Sonata?

I searched the owner reviews section and didn't get any hits.

Any tips on possible discounts in the Pune area?

Re: Hyundai Sonata : Official Review

I have bought the new Sonata.

Didn't get any discounts. Rather, I am bugged with the LHS pulling problem.

Shouldn't Hyundai fix that free of Charge like they did in the US??. So much for a proper Recall Policy that was in the news a few months ago. Is yours a 2012 or a 2011 model?. Overall, do you feel you picked the short end of the stick buying the Sonata instead of the Superb?.

NEWSFLASH:- I heard Sunrise Hyundai in East Delhi is giving a 1L cash discount on the Sonata.

Re: Hyundai Sonata : Official Review

The Sonata gets a facelift in Malaysia, in order to boost sales. Will we see these tweaks in the Indian version as well?

Quote:
It’s not a major revamp, but the facelifted Sonata has enough new bits to distinguish it from the original YF. There’s a new, simpler grille in front, with built-in LED positioning lamps and fog lamps for the 2.4L Executive model, which also gets HID headlamps. At the back, the refresh brings wrap-around LED rear lights in the form of a light bar, as opposed to a row of individual LEDs. The LED repeaters on the wing mirrors are now slimmer and sleeker, and there are new design 17- and 18-inch wheels, the latter reserved for the 2.4L Exec. The bigger engined variant also gets six airbags, audio visual navigation and automatic dual-zone air con.

Re: Hyundai Sonata : Official Review

The Hyundai Sonata, new model launched here recently. Upon inquiries, it was learnt that there is no diesel version in the market till today. Diesels are doing good business for HMIL - the i 20 CRDi, the Verna Fluidic CRDi and the newly launched Elantra are examples. The Santa Fe sells less but is also a diesel from HMIL.
Sadly the i10 and the Sonata at two different ends of the spectrum don't have any diesel versions. The Eon is a minor (under 18 )
The Sonata has sold consistently 20 units every month, (not 19 nor 21 ) in India since September 2012 till February 2012.
Whereas, in the toughest market in the world i.e. US of A it is among the Top 15 selling cars for the year 2012.
In November 2012, it was placed at # 12 in the US Car Sales Chart, selling 17,660 units that month. The Elantra sold 15,923 units, the same month and was placed at # 16.
In February 2013, the Sonata climbed to # 11 position on the US Sales chart clocking sales of 16,007 units. The Elantra jumped to # 10 selling 16,219 units.

Re: Hyundai Sonata : Official Review

Is it normal for the car when parked in Gear to roll down the slope in jerks, the reason I ask is I parked the Embera crdi a few weeks back and went out of station and my neighbor stated it rolled down a bit and hence he had to place some stones to hold the wheels, he says it touched his gypsy parked in front.

The car was in reverse gear, front facing downwards and the parking brake was (accidentally) partly engaged. I intentionally engaged the opposite gear to hold it from rolling forwards in addition to the parking brake. Normal practice I engage parking fully and then slip into gear.

This slope is about 20 degrees. After I came back I tried this again to check by engaging the reverse gear on a downward slope and the car does roll forward in jerks, I never have experienced this in any other car, so is it normal, or is there something I need clarity on.

I always assumed in reverse the car should not roll forwards, in fact people advice that you should always leave the car in the opposite gear from the direction of the slope, it doubles up as a safety precaution and reverse gearing should not allow forward motion.

Does this indicate something. The car has done about 80k kms and is from mid 2008. The car gives about 12-13 kmpl which I think is little low as other owners report 15+kmpl.

Also about the clutch, the mechanic tells me that it is weak but safely usable for another 10-15k kms without damaging other mechanicals hence I don't think it is that bad to let the car roll when parked in gear.

While driving I don't get the burning smell of the clutch slipping, also it tackles inclines in 1st or 'R' gear even if you stop and start again, acceleration is there but again I haven't compared with another if better or same.

Please let me know. Appreciate all help.

Any luck with the negotiation? I also test drove a Sonata yesterday (manual, automatic was unavailable), am looking for rear seat comfort more than anything else as the car would mostly be chauffeur-driven. Superb is another option but the Skoda stories scare me and the price difference is significant.

Let me know if you go ahead with your decision to buy and what's the best offer you get. I am waiting for my Superb test drive before taking a final call.

The discounts were definetely on the cards. I can count the number of sonatas I've seen since its launch. What is the OTR coming to after discounts?

I would like to buy one at that time only. I guess petrol will be around Rs 100 - 120 at that time. Still it will make sense to buy one
It is really interesting to read this post now, sitting in 2015 and considering to buy this car pre-owned! Petrol is still under 70

What do fellow team-bhpians think? I came across a genuine 16,000 kms run car in very good condition in Gurgaon and the asking price is 11.5 Lakhs. I currently drive a Cruze and it's time to change. I was considering the new Altis (New) when I came across this deal. Automatic is a must for me and running will be under 600 kms per month, 100% in the city.

Lovely swooping looks and fully loaded but mileage is terrible at least in BLR traffic ranging between 6 & 8. Someone I know nearly bought one used but backed out due to his higher running.

Yeah, very true mate. Thanks for reminding me of this post of my own.

Actually I can proudly say that predicting fuel prices 2-3 years back i made biggest prediction mistake of my life I never imagined that fuel prices will come down so drastically. Getting petrol still under Rs 70 is a only good thing happened in recent past with the economy. All other prices here in Pune are going upwards only, be it real estate, grocery, food items, hoteling, travelling, & what not. Fuel prices coming down is a really good suprise for all of us & for our economy. Now buying cars like Sonata, Honda Accord makes sense in second hand market as for next 2-3 years fuel prices are going to be in check, fingers crossed.
