Hey,
After parting ways with my Honda City, I purchased an used 2014 Ford Ecosport (1.5 Diesel Manual) (82,950km at the time of purchase) from a family friend. However, there are some questions which I have with respect to the car. The car has been driven for almost 350 km in one week in Mumbai and I have faced some issues. The issues are as follows:

1) How accurate is the MID for average km/l?
For a couple of days after driving the MID would be at 13-16km/l but now it does not go above 11.5km/l on roads where roads are pretty open. The sudden drop is concerning me.

2) The gear box feels very hard
I have to push the gear hard when downshifting to first gear (at optimal speeds). While shifting to other gears, a good amount of force has to be applied as well. Sometimes the gear gets stuck in between, so I have to put it in neutral first and then put it the desired gear.

3) A/C water dripping down at the bottom.
I have noticed several times that some sort of liquid was dripping down after we park the car. At first, I called a local mechanic immediately who told that it was A/C water so there is no need to worry but I am still a bit concerned.

It would be great if some could point me to the right direction regarding these issues.

Besides these are there any other issues which we have to look for since we want it to be hassle free ownership.

Thank you for your time.

When is the face-lift expected to launch?

Congrats for the new car.

Although I can't say anything surely about the MID of the older gen, I have stopped trusting my bs6's avg kmpl displayed. I've seen it anywhere 9.8 to 16.3 in the city. But, when tested with a full tank to reserve, I'm getting a healthy 13kmpl since the car is still new.

Coming to the cluncky gears, i have heard mixed opinions on this. There is no doubt that the gears are a bit hard and grind alot. But, when I spoke to people who have decades of driving experience with fords, the transmission being the way it is is pretty normal. I have experienced everything you said in my bs6 too. But, if you feel that its way too cluncky, I would suggest vising a good diesel mech and take his advice. I feel that the ASS tech are not very knowledgeable in judging by sense (no offense).

Finally, the issue with a week bladder :p . Right after taking delivery of my car, i have driven a few kms before going home. By the time I parked the car, there was a big puddle under it. This made me go right back to the dealer only to find out the same as you did. I have actually got this confirmed with a cousin and a neighborhood who drive/driven fords too.

Hope this helps.

You can always verify using tankful-tankful method. The FE depends on several factors so unless everything remains the same week-on-week, it can vary.

Given the car's vintage (age and kms), has the clutch assembly been serviced? Get it checked, some parts may be due for replacement.

This is the a/c discharge water - every car equipped with an a/c will have so.

I have noticed first gear slots in best only when the car is stationary or at very low speeds while decelerating. Try to double clutch shift into first gear, should slot easily. That means shift to neutral, clutch out, clutch in and shift to first.

Has anyone here faced problems from clogged EGR or gotten EGR cleaning done at ford ASC? If so, how was the outcome and how much did it cost?

I'm at 55k Kms and plan to get it cleaned before a stage 1 tune.

Any idea on whether the cost out of pocket will outweigh the NCB will be of great help.

Thanks in advance.

I faced a similar conundrum a couple of years ago with my Ecosport. I got the dent repaired at a local garage for ₹500. Then i drove to the Ford A.S.S and got the wheel arches, and it was the best ₹6k I spent on my car. They've saved the car from scratches on numerous occasions, courtesy erratic bikers and autorickshaws. Car looks a bit more butch as well!

That's a really good idea. Could you share pics of your fitment? The Ford website shows the wheel arches accessory without the actual fitment. :Frustrati

I don't think I'll be able to capture how they look in real life, but here you go.

Hi All - Please share your thoughts on my current car situation.

Car: 2016 Ecosport Petrol AT
KM: 45K
Last Service: 50K service was done at Satyam Thane on 22nd June 2021.

Few months back I had minor accident involving front collision with the Bike. That time visible damages were broken number plate and front bumper was cracked. There was no issue while driving. When I sent car for above service I mentioned about the accident and asked them to check if everything is fine with the car. They checked and came back that there is lot of damage on the Front bumper and below parts needs to be replaced.

I agreed to replace all parts except Bumper.

Post service I did couple of Highway drives and there was no issue whatsoever.

Current Situation:

Over August 19 - 20 weekend we went to Bhandadara (Near Nashik/Igatpuri) from Navi Mumbai. On 20th we did 50-60 KM drive around Lake Arthur and there were no issues with the car.

On August 21st while returning back to Navi Mumbai we were on Nashik - Mumbai Highway (Near Shahpur I guess) when I started hearing strange noise from the car. It was intermittent and sounded like I was driving the Diesel engine car. I found safe place to park my car and checked source of the noise. Noise was from engine bay and first thought was that car may be heating , although there was no warning signal on the display. I switched off the engine and waited for 10-15 mins and started car again. It took 3-4 tries to crank up the engine which was unusual. Engine was running without any noise this time so we decided to carry on with the journey with AC off and slow speed. After 2-3 kms again we started hearing noise and I could feel that car is not picking up well, thats when I asked wife to search for any workshop nearby. We found one which was nearby in Padga and we had to take right turn to reach workshop. When I stopped car to take turn, car stalled and there was Engine Oil Pressure Low warning. I tried to start it again but it was not starting. Even display panel went blank for some time.

There was small workshop nearby and we asked mechanic to come and check. He checked the engine bay and we saw Coolant tank was empty. He said engine is heated, wait for sometime and it will start. We tried again after some time and there were white fumes/smoke coming from the engine bay and car was not starting. He checked engine oil, oil was there but he said its little thick. He was clueless and said he will need to open the engine and check, at that point I thanked him and said let me call my service center.

We somehow towed car to Satyam Ford Thane (had to wait 5-6 hours on Highway, story for other day).

Next day I called Satyam Ford and explained all the issues to them. They also came back with same finding that looks like Coolant was not there and engine was heated. So far they have scanned the car, haven't found anything. They filled Coolant but car was still not starting.

They told me they will need to open engine and scan it, For which I gave them my go ahead. They will have report ready by tomorrow and I am also planning to visit workshop.

My questions to fellow members:
  1. Have anyone else faced similar issue with their Petrol Ecosport?
  2. If Engine is heated I am assuming there should be some warning coming up, correct?
  3. What are some important questions/points I should be asking when I visit Ford service center?

Drove from Chennai to Yercaud and back, a total of 701 kms. This trip just made me fall way more in love with the EcoSport's highway manners and the NVH.

I drove solo, Left home at 5:43 AM and was back by 5:48 PM. No stops anywhere, reached the foothills by 10:30AM and slowly made my way up enjoying the scenery and taking pictures, reached Yercaud at 11:30AM and picked up a parcel of Biryani from Thambi Prabhakaran Unavagam (must try if you are a foodie). Started my descent and stopped by the road side a few kms down. Enjoyed the biryani with the sound of Nature making a great background score. One quick bio-break and I started the return. It was a very pleasant day and I thoroughly enjoyed.

Got an overall mileage of 16.5 kmpl, there was a lot of traffic and the constant downshifting might have taken a toll on the average. Traffic was sparse after reaching Ulundurpet.

Compared to my Innova the EcoSport definitely feels way more powerful and quieter on the highways but the ride quality is FIRM(tyre pressure: 30 psi) and you definitely feels those rumblers and expansion joints on your bottom. rl:

P.S. The MID continues to show a difference of ~2kmpl. Also diesel retailing at ₹94.53/liter in Chennai is crazy.

Awesome pics bro. Good write-up too. Loved reading it. I have just clocked 60,000 kms in my Ecosport. Always gives an avg of 16-17kms. Bought this in Dec 2015 TDCI.

I always travel a lot to trichy with family(once in 3 months atleast) and with a lot of luggage too.(you know how the bags looks like) Very comfortable and reliable car for such trips. Never once has the car disappointed me over these 6 years (touch wood lol:)

Hope you are enjoying Skylar. Naanum chennai thaan Saar.

All repairs done at ford Authorized SVC will have 6 months of warranty which should cover the damages done to your engine.

Radiator, fan and other cooling system parts were replaced during the repair. Something wasn't fixed properly which probably caused coolant loss, and thereafter engine overheat. Unless you had another accident which damaged your cooling system, the responsibility lies with the ford guys.

It's likely that your head gasket is shot, and coolant ingress into combustion chamber probably caused other damages too.

So I visited Satyam Ford today.

Met with assigned SA and he showed me the car engine which had been removed from car.

As per explanation provided by the technician , engine block and head are warped and both needs to be replaced. :Shockked:. He mentioned due to leakage water had entered Cylinder bores. Then they shared estimates of repair with me, it will be close to 1.6 lakhs.

I mentioned to SA that I am not convinced with above explanations and I need to escalate, he asked me to wait and went to talk to Manager. After some time I met manager.

He patiently listened to me and agreed that there are some unknowns and even they have not seen case like this before. He said that they have already reached out to Ford to discuss this case and will need 3-4 days to come to any conclusion (SA didn't mentioned anything like this ).

I have asked them to keep me updated. Not sure what to expect next.

Please let me know if any advice here.

I was able to click pictures of Head Gasket, including here for reference.

Hello Fellow Bhpians, Our Ecosport 2016 TDCi is due for yearly service at 40k, Had some mild vibrations from the engine off late, Service Advisor has mentioned it has to do with engine bedding, it will be costing 6000 to replace the bedding. Is it something which needs immediate replacement? Car is primarily used by my sister for her hospital duties.

Hi,
Apologies for the late response. So I got the car serviced at Bhavna Ford, Kalina, Mumbai for 80,000km service. The service cost was Rs. 3,992/- and a couple of issues were discovered. The issues were:
1) Coolant Reservoir had a leak
2) The rear shock absorbers had completely given out
3) Fan motor on the front was moving in its place (which led to extreme vibrations on the steering and gear knob) and would only move at max speed.

The above issues were fixed with a couple of minor issues and it amounted to Rs. 24,590/-

Pertaining to the issues stated in the previous post, the SA said that.

1) Fuel Economy depends on how you drive in which conditions. He repeated the same answer when I told him about the sudden drop in the fuel economy on MID.

2) Gears were normal but the clutch was a bit hard. It can run for a couple thousand km before overhauling

3) A/C dripping is normal

It was after the PMS the mileage had dropped from 15-16km/l to 10-11km/l on the MID. Only I drive the car and it was driven on the same route with the same traffic at the same time.

I reset the Avg km/l today and it went down to as low as 7.2km/l but when I parked the car it was at 8.5km/l. How long does it take to calibrate the fuel economy on MID? (car was driven around 14km after that)
