I don't think this is related to the battery. Despite experiencing low battery issues in my AMT, I have never experienced any steering problems.

I suggest taking your vehicle to a reliable garage that can perform an error code scan.

There are some YouTube videos that discuss power steering issues, but they are often accompanied by an immobilizer blinking even when the ignition is on. This problem can be resolved by replacing the ignition relay which is already done as stated I guess.

In this below youtube video, the mechanic discusses the issue of ABS errors and hard steering same as your issue. Have a look at it and ask the service center to investigate this issue.

Hi, sorry for the delay. Got the power steering checked out. It was indeed the left front speed sensor which was the culprit. This time the diagnosed correctly. Thanks a lot for the pointers.:thumbs up

My 2016 Zest XMS petrol crossed 70,000 kms yesterday while in Mysuru. In the last year, it did give some trouble which was due to fuel pump issues. Changing the fuel pump sorted it out (I'm now running on third fuel pump). Along with this, got the timing belt kit, accessories belt, water pump etc changed at 65,000km.

And battery had to be replaced under warranty (it was less than 2.5 years old). Not happy with Exide battery at all.

Suspension, mounts, bearings, clutch, brake disc etc are all stock as of now.
Hopefully, next year will also be a problem-free ownership.

I have Tata Zest XMA Diesel, 54K on ODO,2015 Feb registered. This is a AMT model. I bought it pre-owned in Jan 2020 with Approx. 44K on ODO. I could not drive it much due to Covid. I did a 1600KM trip recently -Mumbai-Kolhapur-Goa-Mumbai ( with a stay at my native place). On 3 days of my extensive driving where I drove > 250 km and > 5 hrs
in hot sun , I observed that AC was not colling enough in last leg of the travel. It cooled well for first 5 hrs or so , but felt that blower was not throwing enough air. I changed setting to max and blower noise increased but there was hardly any change in air throw. I came back to Mumbai and tried yesterday - and it worked fine. It was throwing enough cold air at various blower speeds. Any idea what could be wrong ? or Was it just an extended driving for long hours in hot sun that rendered AC less effective ?
By the way - I got Car serviced before the trip , I cleaned AC filer myself , also Condenser was replaced 5 months back with full AC servicing.

Ice formation, perhaps? (after running for 5 hours or so)

Any specific reason why the condenser was changed @PSG? Anyway - like @srvm mentioned - mostly its ice formation in the AC ducts that is blocking the cool air-flow over time. Next time if you face this after a long drive - immediately pull over safely, open the bonnet and check the pipes/ducts that enter the cabin somewhere behind the engine / battery. See if any of them OR metal connectors between those pipes anywhere have chilled ice formation even externally. Its a tell-tale sign of ice-clogged ducts.

Typically - this is caused by a malfunctioning AC trip switch (which cuts off the AC compressor based air temperature). It keeps the compressor cooling air, eventually leading to ice formation in the ducts. Get it checked at an FNG or car AC specialist. Shouldn't cost much to replace if it is faulty.

Has any Zest/Bolt owner faced engine issues at low temperatures of 10-15 degrees or below? My 6 year Bolt XT at low temperatures gives off a check engine light error, seems to misfire intermittently and causes the radiator cooling fan to go on, despite low coolant temperatures of 45-50C degrees. The issue manifests especially during early morning starts and using the vehicle is inconvenient during Dec-Jan here in NCR as the HVAC also starts behaving weird with no temperature control. My car has ACC and the heater just stops working as the engine temp stays low due to the cooling fan staying permanently on during this time despite low coolant & ambient temperature.

A scan for errors gives off a coolant temperature sensor error but that is incorrect. The sensor has been replaced twice but hasnt helped. People i have spoken to has advised of ECU issues as this issue is not observed during the rest of the year but unfortunately cannot be confirmed. It appears to me that the ECU is not resilient to low temperatures, probably due to lack of adequate testing. I'm worried about using the car in such a condition as this might result in engine damage due to low operating temperatures.

Also how can i find out if an update to the ECU is available and also the version that is installed in my vehicle?

Hi I own a Zest Revotron XT with 48k kms currently started facing exactly the same issue that you mentioned .Did you manage to find the possible cause or solution ,visited ASC but they don't have any idea changed the temp sensor already planning to go ahead with a coolant change although it's only been 7k kms and a year since my last coolant change. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Hi BHPians
I own a Tata Zest XM petrol 2016 model. My dad had bought it new then. It is our first car and we are in love with it having no plans to sell it off. The car is serviced at authorised service center at regular intervals and it's running smooth like from the day 1 giving no breakdowns. Recently I'm bothered with the Check engine lamp illuminated in the instrument cluster randomly. It pops up randomly and there is no degradation of performance or any other sort of issues. Had told the ASC about the same at last service, they told that the issue was cleared and soon after I reach halfway from the service center the warning poped out and went off when I took it out the next day.
Please share your thoughts.

The most common reason is a failing battery. Suggest you get it checked, especially if the check engine light keeps coming on often.

Hi Banshee

Apologies for responding so late. I somehow missed this.
No i have not found a solution to this. But i managed to reduce the frequency of occurrence. Now it happens only during driving at very low temperatures (below 10-12) at higher speeds above 50-60kmph.
Please check post 3098 on this thread.

Regards

Thank you for your reply but I had changed the battery about 1 year ago and the battery condition is excellent

My 2016 Zest XMS petrol crossed 80,000 kms last Sunday while crossing Palar bridge near Ranipet (on Chennai-Bengaluru highway).

Tata Zest : Official Review-img_20240421_224805.jpg

In the last year, it gave quite a bit of trouble - it was in Service center for nearly 2 months (Jan-March 2024). Engine used to randomly die while in slow moving / crawling traffic. Sometime engine died even during cold starts in the morning. No MIL or warning lights in the instrument cluster made it very difficult to diagnose.

Fuel pump was changed for the 3rd time, Spark plugs, HT cables, Ignition coil, Oxygen Lambada sensor were also replaced. Problem still persisted. Finally, engine wiring harness was replaced and the issues seems to have gone. Total cost was more than Rs.40,000.

I had also replaced clutch kit & one rear wheel bearing at 75,000km.

Suspension, engine mounts, other wheel bearings, brake disc etc are all stock as of now.

Given the prices of new cars, I cannot afford to replace Zest with a new one. Hence, I plan to keep it for as long as it remains reasonable on my pocket.

Even after all the troubles it gave me last year (quite a long story, hopefully I can pen it down in a long-term ownership review), we as a family are happy while travelling around in it.

Hopefully, next year will be a problem-free ownership.

I’m still part of one of Zest’s WA group with members across different cities of India.
Though I moved on to Nexon in 2017, there are many owners still holding on to their Zests purchased in 2014-2015.
It’s a fact that none of the current mid size SUVs can challenge the comfort, space, equipment, safety and value this car provides.
It has its share of niggles, of course. But, once you manage them, this car is a keeper!

Zest really shines when it comes to ride comfort, good onroad dynamics, space and sturdy build quality. I am sure it will serve you well.

I was forced to move out of my 2013 Zest last December due to frequent niggles and a need for a larger car to Carens. All of us miss the comfort Zest provided. It was a well packaged car not marketed well by Tata

Glad to see a happy owner of Zest.
Myself owning a 2016 Zest XM Revotron which crossed 72k KM and I'm very much satisfied with him. He being our first and only car till now we are very much emotionally attached to the car and have no plan to sell him even if we go for a new one. Haven't given any breakdowns or a chance to call the RSA till date.:Cheering:
Initially there were some niggles but thankfully all of those were sorted by the ASC even though we had to frequently vist them and sent complaint mails to the company,Just TATA things.:D
For a past few months I have been facing an issue with the check engine lamp illumination pops up in the instrument cluster randomly but the car is running perfectly though. Had addressed this in last service and they said it was sorted but soon after I left the service centre it came up again. So I just want to know weather you had faced any such issues if so what was the cause. I had also replaced the clutch kits as well in the last service and since then I'm facing a slight tightness in shifting the gears especially in 1st and 2nd and there's a slight vibration to the gear lever when throttled in 4th gear and it's surprisingly slightly audible if music is not played.
The next service is scheduled and I would address these issues and hopefully they fix it well.
But even with all these still I'm in love with my Zest having a lot of beautiful memories and can't find a replacement for him.
The space and comfort can catch up with the mid size sedan in market even today.
Cheers:)
