Ah the Baleno was simply terrific..had my vote over an OHC anyday :D The early models (2006-08) of the M16a SX4 was a good successor as well though it drank a lot of fuel. Ciaz however...yuck! Simply isn't as balanced to drive. To me the Kizashi was an exceptional evolution in the Suzuki portfolio this was a car that the company clearly worked on with passion not diluting the DNA of the car in bringing it to the mass market and it shows. Sure the Kizashi is a segment or two higher but to me, this was the last proper Suzuki; unrelenting, raw, powerful, naturally aspirated, excellent cornering capabilities, good levels of feedback and response, great sound and astonishing brakes without missing out on basic practicality.
Don't go looking for any remnants of the Baleno's characteristic Suzuki DNA in a Ciaz ;)

agree: Surely Vitara is a better looking car than S-Cross. Vitara is a decent mid sized SUV not huge as a Fortuner/Endeavour. Would be a right competitor for Creta, Duster and Eco-Sport.

The new Vitara looks amazing.

In my opinion, the Lodgy is unlikely an option a potential S-Cross and/or Creta buyer will consider. These 2 are basically the crossover/mini-SUV type and the Lodgy is more an MPV. Pretty unlikely (but yeah, never impossible).

For myself, I've already taken a sensible and objective outlook of the Creta and taken it off the consideration list (to me, it is simply not worth). If S-Cross also takes the high prices route for the top 1.6 variant, I'll definitely have to bring XUV 5OO back into the play and possibly, even the Terrano/Duster twins. Or just kill the purchase plan.

Whoever thought more options will make life easier. :D

Got a chance to extensively evaluate both the 1.3L and the 1.6L versions of the S-Cross.
Here are my observations.

Applicable to all versions.

1. The Crossover stance looks evident and it doesn't appear as timid as in the pictures. In person, it does have a presence thanks to its 4.3M long length.
2. Interior quality is unlike any Maruti or any japanese car below 15Lacs. Has a European feel to everything. From the slightly muted thud to the soft touch plastics, everything feels very Un-Marutish( if such a term is permissible in English language) stupid:
3. According to SA, the 1.3 won't cross 10 Lacs mark while the 1.6 will be well within the 13 Lac marks, all figures are Ex-Showroom.
4. National launching is on 5th August, followed by the local dealership level launching on 8th.
5. TD cars will be available from 2nd Aug onwards.
6. From someone I know at the dealership level, enthusiasm isn't what you call awesome, still people are getting interested once they personally get to see and drive the car. Till date, my city's Nexa has got 42 confirmed bookings, most of them for the Alpha Versions of the 1.3 and Delta 1.6. One silver S-Cross is displayed at Hotel Radisson Blue.
7. Different alloy designs will be available at launch as MGA, though buyback of old alloys isn't possible. They have given a feedback to Maruti about the unpopularity of the OEM alloys.

Driving impressions-1.3L

1. Feels supremely refined, much more than the 1.6L
2. Has adequate punch and feels quick upto the 90Kmph mark after which road conditions didn't permit me to go ahead. Even with 2 SA and myself, the car was pulling strongly and never felt underpowered.
3. Turbo lag is more evident than Ciaz, still much lesser than Ertiga.
4. If you don't live in a city full of Beemers and Audis, you won't be regretting your purchase of the 1.3 S-Cross. Its more than adequate for all practical purposes. I am glad they didn't plonk the 1.4K Series as it would have made matters worse for the car. Currently, 1.3 doesn't feel out of place in a S-Cross.

Much has been said about this engine, and one word to sum it all- EXPLOSIVE!!! Even in the turbo lag period, there was adequate pull to climb an incline with 3 people on-board.

The tyres, JK Elanzos were downright horrible, at all speeds, they were noisier than the diesel mills.

Here are some pictures. The Silver and brown cars were 1.3 whereas the blue one was 1.6L.

I must say that was biased! You picked a dazzling colour for the Vitara and a bland white for the S-Cross. The blue would've busted your argument.

BTW, I've read that clutch play is optimal. How noticeable or helpful was the "power clutch"?

Is that a silver (the premium silver) or is it the grey??

I am glad my observations were helpful to you.:)

I found the clutch to be extremely light and easy to use by Diesel standards. The clutch is a self adjusting type, that means it adjusts itself as the clutch gets worn out. My test car was had just 28kms on the odo after I finished driving it, so its too soon to comment on its self adjusting nature.

That is a Premium Silver shade. Looks greyish due to the dark ambience around the display area. The granite grey shade is much darker.

Seems like the silver is a bit darker than the current Maruti Silky Silver.

Definitely!! Current Silky Silver is more whitish, Premium silver is more grayish, more like the silver of Kizashi.

To be honest, I took pictures of Blue and Brown car, while having you in mind. I remember you saying that these two were the colours you were interested in. Personally seen, both colours feel premium and superb to look at, though my pick would be Brown.
Though I would like to mention that somehow dust was more visible on brown than blue.
