My experience of about 13000 km on my 1.3 and mostly NH1(now NH44) driving tells me that there's no feature better than cruise control, especially here in North where there are frequent speed checks and it's difficult to maintain speed under the limit. The mileage best obtained has been 25.3(on tankful to tankful) and about 26.1 in another case (on mid). On average the mileage stays in the 21-23 range. Another reason for such extravagant mileage is that 1.3 does not encourage aggressive driving like 1.6. It's feels better when driven sedately.

Rightly observed eddy481, by the way does your S-Cross have granite gray colour and a TBHP 'LTD' sticker?

Of late some detailed discussions on FE:).

Today I tested my 1.6 Zeta in 5th gear between 80-100 kmph and it was a relaxed drive with so less braking and test FE for the day is 22.4 and another relevant point is that this is with Michelin 215/60 R16 which could account for at least -1 figure. JKs gives slightly higher FE than Michelin or any other soft compound tyres. And I must say this type of driving style not easy to adopt in 1.6 as the car could range its FE between 12-25 depending upon driving style.

Nevertheless any milage near the figure of 20 with 1.6 is very good IMHO.

Very good mileage for 1.6. clap:

Just one query. When you upsized the tyre with 215/60, did you replace the alloys? if yes, what is the size? 16 x 6.5J?

Although one shouldn't worry a lot about the mileage of the S-cross, I will just clarify that due to the larger turbo size, FE will actually increase in the higher gears especially in the 80-100 Km/hr band.

For instance, my Jetta delivers 19.3 km/l @ 1400 rpm in 6th gear. However at 120 km/hr, the same 2.0 TDI does 20.1 km/l in 6th. There are two thumb rules for good FE:

- Use cruise control to maintain steady throttle input ( I achieved these figures without CC)

- Try and keep the engine in the Turbo range

This is what I have observed about turbo diesels. An S-cross owner can maybe give this technique a try and report FE.

Yes it does. Where was I spotted? :D

Thanks Sree73, alloys has not been updated. At the time of JK swap a few guys including tyre dealer asked me that 215/60 R16 would be fine on stock alloys. But recently upon enquiring more I am a bit skeptical about unsuitability of stock alloys:deadhorse

Tyre performance is good so far. Could this become problematic in future ?

EDIT: eddy481 with respect to #7429 - Was it parked on Kunjpura Road, close to Sec-9?

The reason I asked that question was because the stock alloy of S-Cross is 16x6J. The max size allowed for 16x6 rim is 205/60R16. Don't worry. it won't give any trouble. In a way, you gained the ground clearance by 6mm :)

Brezza top end is having 215/60R16 tyres, but it's alloys are 16x6.5J

Yes, That's a few paces from where I live at. Visit me next time whenever you're here. :)

Do the newer alloys in the S-Cross have the same size as previous or has the size been changed?

Drove to EKM last night & thought will do light with A pedal & got a whopping 18.5 Kmpl FE!! Speeds were between 60-70 Kmph with 2 times bursting to 110 for overtaking & couldn't keep a steady on cruise.

Let me TEST further when I drive back to Madras on FE & see if I can get anything over 20 Kmpl

Hi. I get an average mileage of 18 Kms per liter between city 70% and highway 20%. I am quite happy with this mileage. I sincerely feel ki "kitna deti hai" should not be the only motto to buy the car. S cross is a great car minus the dead steering and some flimsy plastics (like window buttons.which are not even back lit, light/wiper switches and door handles). I miss my Linea for this. Just enjoy the car....

60-70 Kmph is pretty low for highway runs. You can keep 90-100 and will get 20+Kmpl.

60-70 is way too low, I found to get better FEs at higher speeds.

What display mode do you have one your console? If you change your display to show 'Instantaneous FE' and try to 'fill' the bars, you will get a good idea on what FE you will get a what speeds/gears. Try changing the display.

MVPA - EKM is not exactly a highway; its a two lane SH & has traffic upto Kadamattom & from Thiruvamkulam the speeds varies from 10 to 60 Kmph

Heading for a very short trip to Thrissur and will be back on Monday. Will check the the FE details and report. Plan to start early tomorrow. (~4AM)

In that route you are basically stuck. I regularly get around 21 in my Cochin - Trivandrum weekend runs. The drive is basically at late night to early morning, so I get to beat most of the traffic on that route.

If I am doing the same during peak traffic, my FE figures will drop to around 18.

My friend has booked an S Cross 1.6 on my recommendation, this facelift news has him confused. He does want a car immediately but wants to know if he will be stuck with an old model now.
I feel that since the engines are unchanged and he has decided on a 1.6, he might not loose much. Infact, he is exchanging his current car with it(getting a good value + exchange bonus).
What I felt was he might loose out on the old car resale value and will also have to pay for the hike in price for the new car when it arrives in case he waits for the facelift.

Any suggestions?
