Came across a single owner white 2017 S-Cross 1.6 in Bangalore, through my school friend. It has 1.2L on the odo, and a Stage-1 Wolf remap. Tyres replaced recently, and Timing belt replaced.

If anyone is interested, can put you across to the owner.

Available for give-away:

A set of stock seat covers for the S-Cross. The covers are in good condition except for some wear on the driver seat - looks like the person driving the car used to keep his wallet or something in his rear pocket. The set includes the head-rest covers.

I am not sure if anyone will really want it, but posting just in case.

The Average FE on the MID display - is it after re-fuel, or life-time ?

It displays after refuel. Also you can select when you want it to reset from the MID.

Depends on your settings. From the manual:

For me, it's been quite accurate, with a variance of around 10% at most.

Intermittent Alternator whine - help required.

I have a 4 channel Class-D amplifier in my S-Cross, taking high-level input from the stock HU. The power and input cables are routed separately. Yet, I am hearing Alternator whine intermittently, which is often when I am accelerating in 2nd gear. When it happens, the engine is running close to 1500 rpm, and often disappears after the engine crosses 2100 rpm.

Mostly heard in 2nd gear
When it happens, the SHVS light is on. But does not happen every time the SHVS light is on.

The observation about the SHVS light may not be accurately described coincidence, though.

The earthing from the amp has been done well. Had a bigger issue earlier and we had changed the earthing point / negative connection point. That problem was solved, but now we have this intermittent whine.

Has anyone experienced this whine in your car ? What did you do ?

Quick update on my S Cross 1.3 diesel at 1.35L kms. The timing chain replacement was pending since 1.3L km service and the ride had become "crashy". So, decided to join both these work and left the car at service center for 2 days.

The below jobs were completed:
Total cost was around ₹35k but given the works that were carried out I feel it's fine. I was also asking the advisor to replace the springs but he recommended against it for now saying "he hasn't come across any spring replacement in recent past so it should be good to not change them if they aren't broken". Any thoughts on this?

Next, I upgraded the low beams to OSRAM 50W LEDs. Colour temperature that I picked was 4200K. Got it for ₹5.5k from Amazon and happy to report there is clear improvement. The process is very easy and doable at home itself. I would recommend anyone wanting better lighting solution out of headlights to get this done first before planning other changes.

Next, properly hardwired the dashcam. Now parking mode works as expected. Again, it sounds a bit complex but one can easily do this at home with a little bit of knowledge of fuses which can be found from the manual book. Just keep a multimeter nearby and you are good. Remember to avoid tapping into the AWD fuse even if we don't have the functionality. You will get battery/start stop system related warnings in MID if you decide to use it. Also, if you are using 10A or 15A fuses, the orientation of the fuse tap doesn't matter much for dashcam purpose.

Next, I came across this team BHP thread of adding wireless Android Auto adapter:

https://www.team-bhp.com/news/how-ge...ss-2000-rupees

Went ahead and brought a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W, followed the steps and now I have wireless Android Auto capability which works just as good as OEM one's with minor but acceptable lag. Even the steering buttons work as expected clap:

Finally, the headlights had become yellowish. Decided to give it a "Colgate Toothpaste + Baking Sode + Toothbrush" treatment and must say the results surprised both me and the family driver rl:

After all this, S Cross is as good as any other vehicle in the market today and I don't have a single compelling reason to sell/replace this gem. We may get other cars but even my family agrees that the S Cross is here to stay for long.

Anyone using an iPod with the stock HU ? It's a 2019 1.3 Zeta

I play my music through iPod Touch 4th gen. A Class-D amp drives the speakers.

Of late, I am noticing:

1. A few seconds delay before the HU starts playing songs
2. I use the random play option, but each time the HU powers up, the random play is reset and I have to select it again (Selection on the HU)
3. A few times, the HU seems stuck
4. Then the song being played is different from the song shown on the HU. This continues even if I push the up arrow button to select the next song. But after the song completes, things return to normal.

Random behaviour there. I Have used the same amp and iPod combination in my previous car for quite a few years - but never had this problem.

Wishing you many more happy kilometers...

I also drive a 2017 1.3L DDiS S Cross Zeta however, clocked relatively less KMs (only 42K). The car has many positives -

1. Maruti cars generally goes to Service Centre periodically not to a Garage - hasselfree ownership

2. Good milage - 15-16 kmpl in Bangalore city (I travel 52 km from home to office and back in full traffic)

3. One of best build Maruti car and suspension set up

4. Quite spacious for 4/5 occupants

5. Comes with all the bells and whistle - all 4 disc brakes, touch screen, cruse control, centre arm rest, both sun visors with lights, glove box and boot with light, driver side seat hight adjustment, engine start-stop button, steering rake and hight adjustment, auto AC, request sensors in both the front doors etc etc. All the usable features are there, though SUNROOF is missing- which I do not need as well.

6. Last lot of diesel car without DPF/DEF/RREGERATION issue

7. Last lot of car with out irretating speed sensing buzzer

8. Based on the car's cost, age IVD also came down now so the annual insurance fees

One negative -

In hills the power feel bit inadequate, need to change the gear frequently.

Keeping the Bangalore traffic in mind was thinking of getting a new petrol car (just to keep away the issues of DPF/DEF/REGENERATION issues; otherwise I love the torque and milage of a diesel engine) and automatic. Looked at new Alcazar, Creta, Thar Roxx, Skoda Kushaq however, all the cars mileage is not suitable for my requirements. Currently, my daily diesel cost Rs 300, in any of these cars will minimum double that cost.

I agree with you, not find a compelling reason to sell this car and go for a new car which create a big dent in pocket initally as well as everyday driving. Thus, want to go ahead with the S cross for few more years.

True. We have opened up the car a fair bit, and found a very European setup inside - the way they have put in connectors where Indian made cars make do with direct wires, etc. How ever, I find the Fog lamps to be very poor. Plan to replace these. And a good cross-member in the front would have been good. One other missing feature is good lumbar support for the front seats. Else, the Zeta pretty much has everything one would look for.

Above photos of my car are some of the treasured photos that I have of the car. An update has been long overdue. Some of the members know that I had installed the roof carrier and rails on the car for hauling luggage. With 430L + 420L on the top, the car has a carrying capacity of over 800L. I had carried about that much a few times. It was a calculated decision, to get the roof carrier, as I was planning to hold the car till untill the 15 year mark. The car had recently got some goodies like ceratec and the engine was smooth and with Wolf stage-1, it was really great to drive. The car just delivered everything we wanted, and it was decided that we will hold the car for longer and get a small city automatic for run arounds, to keep the mileage of the scross in check. With this in mind, we got a Ritz Automatic.

Enter the disaster.

I still do not know what happened that day and I am afraid to look at the dashcam footage. We were returning from doing the last rites of my wife's grand mother and at around 11 in the morning, around 200 m from the house, the car met with an accident. There was a big sound and the next thing I know, I was staring at a tree through the airbags. BANG!! There was a smell of fire crackers and mud and dust and exhaust, I was disoriented and took about a minute to come to my senses. Next steps:
Checking in on everyone amidst chaos, my son for the first time in his life was not on his car seat and was sleeping on my father in law's lap. I found him to be safe in my brother in law's hands as he had swept him and kept my son safe. I will be forever grateful to my brother in law for keeping my son safe. I had some pains, not sure what. My wife had huge pain in her knee as it made contact with glove box and made a mess with the glove box. My wife and I were in the front seat and had the seat belts on. My FIL had some major whiplash injury and had to be hospitalised. He was diagnosed with some hair line fractures to the spine, FIL did not use seat belts. FIL was asked to use a collar for a few months.

The car had stuck a tree and no one apart from the car and a few of its occupants had injuries. Thankfully, no one else was injured.

Some pics of the aftermath:

Above shows the tree that stopped the car. I am grateful to the lord that it was only a tree and no one else was hurt.

One of my long term goal was to reach 160934.4 kms (100,000 miles) The accident was at 158xxx kms.

After a few weeks.
I took the week off from work to settle this mess and to care to the wounded. The car was towed to a maruti workshop. All of us got checked out by the hospital and we started planning on the return journey to our home town. Police formalities over, FIR filed, the car was flatbed to my nexa from where I get the car serviced. I knew the people there and were in contact with them and they were very coperative. Thank you, Nexa Kalammassery.

Next:
Insurance process was on going and I was not in a good mental state. The scross was declared a total loss. I thought a lot about getting it back into original shape, but how much ever I thought about it, it did not make sense to get that done. I would not be sure, if the car can take another accident and every little sound and wierd behaviour of the car would make me paranoid. Financially, I was getting a fair market value from the insurance for the car. At 158000 kms on the odo, the car was still on stock clutch and timing chain. The tires still had about 10,000kms left in it. I had already budget for all these about 6 months back. After a lot of contemplation, and about a month at the service centre, it was decided that the car would be deemed a total loss. With no idea on what the next car would be, we marched ahead. T
The car was auctioned off, insurance paid me the money and the car was then towed away to another owner. I know that, the person who bought the car from me is planning to fix the car and sell it. So, the scross will continue to live on with a future owner. I hope that the scross will be happy there. I understood that the new owner, a workshop person is planning to facelift the car before selling. I am aware that the person has a nefarious intend and is not planning on disclosing about the accident.

Parting short of the car, as it is taken away from the nexa kalamasserry to north kerala for its next stint.

he plan was for the second small city automatic (Ritz Automatic) to take on full time duty until a plan was reached.

Congratulations !!!. Wish you a lot more mileage on this Gem.

I'm a proud owner of 1.3 Zeta 2015. One of the early deliveries in Bangalore. Just after Independence day of 2015. :)
I have clocked 1.15 Lakh KM so far. I used to clock a mileage of 20000KM yearly before the Covid outbreak. After that, the Work from home scenario came in and the usage took a back seat.

I replaced the Timing chain during the last service (1.1L KM) and the engine still runs butter smooth. The slight turbo kick once the 2000-2100 RPM is crossed will bring a smile on your face.
Little engine growl creeps into the cabin which is normal for a diesel engine and that is with in the tolerance limits.

Tyres are due for replacement. Running on the first replacement done at 55K KMs. On Michelin Primacy 3ST. 60K KM done and seems another 10K is left in life.
Need to go for the spare tyre also as it is still the old OEM JK Elanzo.

By the by, I enjoy a fuel economy of 16-17 in Bangalore traffic and get 25KMPL on my long drives (The car always run with AC. I have not switched off AC in the last 9.5 years of use). I get 27+KMPL if I restrict myself from getting into triple digit speeds.
The car masks it's speed to a good extend. You will not realize the speed until look at the speedometer. (A trouble sometimes :))

S-Cross was little ahead of time when it was launched.
Thinking of going for the wireless android auto update. My friend and BHPian @sanjbmw2001 has offered his help, but I'm not finding time to go for it

I am thinking of a Pioneer Z5290BT as replacement for the stock HU. Some reasons in my prev post regarding iPod behaviour.
