Thank you CAPTAIN for sharing the picture of your TUV lid. So looks like I will have to get this clip fitted during my next service, till then I will live with it.

Very sorry to hear about this airbus, wishing a speedy recovery for your TUV. Keep us posted on the diagnosis and the remedy for this issue.
I was wondering how people are living with these kind of niggles in a new car. Is it such an aspirational vehicle to own with? Or, do people become 'used to' with those issues? Or, they expected it while buying it?
Unheard about a new gen launch like this. What they were testing during the enormous rounds of pre launch runs conducted and seen through the Chennai roads? Were they just carrying some emloyees to and fro their office?

Its a very functional vehicle. Easily takes 5 well built adults + a couple of kids to most places that a family would drive to. Not many cars in the 10L range that can call this their USP. SUVish looks + seating + comfort are added bonus when combined with that well configured suspension that does manage to soak up all kinds of road irregularities.
For a lot of people, its aspiration in the sense that its a BIG car. Wider & taller than most cars on the road - I have seen folks in "White" Fortuners & Innovas glare at me because I kind of look down at them from my seating position.

its a mix of both. I did expect niggles while buying the car but what I did not expect is that M&M will continue to replace problem parts with sub standard parts that will again go kaput. Seatbelts, resonator, modulator etc. are standard niggles in the TUV. Even the new gen scorpio has had resonator/modulator issues and many many BHPians have got it changed time & again.
A lot of the new problems posted on this thread are because of the MLD change that M&M is providing free of cost. I dont think this was tested pre launch and while I appreciate the fact that M&M is providing this free of cost (part costs about INR 80K I think) for TUV owners with wheelspin issues, what they are actually doing is getting a horde of test vehicles running the MLD and testing it for them for future use - like the TUV500. Its a win win for both if done right but as usual M&M ASS making an ass of things and what was a goodwill gesture is turning into a pain in the ass.

I dont think you can ever test for just about every scenario. Well I can think of a new Gen launch with worse problems - Innova Crysta :D My only consolation is that I did not pay a hefty premium for a product that has so many issues. Most new launches today have some or the other issues and its not just isolated to Indian manufacturers.
:OT We have moved into the realm of software controlled cars where all it needs one line of code to be out of place to cause an issue. When compared to the old gen mechanical cars, today's cars are a lot more fickle. As you & I cant just edit the code and fix things, we have to rely more & more on ASS. its a different story that most ASS are still in the mechanical car world and dont understand the first thing about ECUs & error diagnostics. Given that the future is going to be algorithmic, I shudder to think of all that can go wrong - unless the AI whiz kids develop a master algo that can identify & fix all issues in other modular algos. Now that would be a gem of a self drive car!

I personally hate automakers for releasing cars to the market costing millions to customers and then learning the fixes at the expense of customers' time, money and peace of mind.
However, I'd still live with this from an Indian maker in an economical car that ticks most boxes compared to the niggles, quality (lack thereof), and cost of ownership for extremely costly cars that dont even have the physical robustness required in our conditions from German as well as Japnese makers. Mercedes-Benz...VW...Skoda and the lot. Google and you'll find truck loads of terrible customer experiences with even well established global models.
The TUV3OO's niggles are quite simple and cheap to fix in comparison (like the car in comparison on pocket).
Sad of course - but relatively less so.
Its disappointing to hear such things.
I also went for MLD change but there was no ECU flash done for my TUV. Other members who have gone for MLD change please confirm it.
I have driven appx 2500 kms post MLD change and no issues apart from non functioning of static bending but it is also resolved now.
I was standing at their head whole time they are doing the MLD change. In my opinion there can be some problem with the ABS as they have to reconnect the ABS wires and do the brake bleeding.
Just a small thing but not to be ignored that the MLD kit does not come with differential oil, hope they have filled the differential oil in it,
do check with them. This I can say as when I was there for this some technicians were thinking that differential oil was pre filled in the part but it was not there.

Sequence of events:
Yesterday evening after reaching home, I noticed coolant level drop and called India Garage, Peenya. They sent a technician home this morning to check and top it up. It's a different issue I am facing for sometime, not related to MLD.
Today first hint was ESS stopped working. The sensor was still working as I saw ESS activation light on console but did not shut down the engine. Took the car to office (about 10 kms) without any issue. While coming back ESS worked once. After that I felt AC was not cooling, tried different modes. Also, saw ESS button did not engage after pressing. Drove another 3 kms, ABS alarm came up on console, followed by Air Bag and Engine alarms. Parked the vehicle, shut down the engine and called India Garage Service Manager. He asked me to restart the engine. Engine did not come up. Called Mahindra Road Side Assistance and towed the vehicle to India Garage, Whitefield. I have also spoken to Mahindra Bengaluru Customer Care Manager regarding this.
When I spoke to Service Adviser yesterday, he told me that they did not perform ECU flash. I am suspecting a software issue :deadhorse |

It does cost peace of mind, time spent explaining things/arguing with MASS and a lot of vigilance. I drove my WagonR for 6 years and never once did I have to worry about something going wrong where as with the TUV every small new sound, unwanted hum/vibration (which in a lot of cases might not be in any was associated with health of the car) makes you wonder what new issue has cropped up. Eternal vigilance seems to be the price of ownership and unfortunately one cannot fix a price for that!

Why would anyone transport a part with oil filled in it unless it needs to be sealed and hence needs oil to be prefilled. I dont think everyone had the same issue else we would have had a lot of people complaining about a lot of noise from the new MLD :D

Update on my tank: I have been told that Alternator is bad. That may be the reason for seemingly unrelated alarms. Issue doesn't seem to be related to MLD retrofitting. ESS was not working may be because battery was not charging. Similarly AC was not getting power but fan was running from battery. Still need explanation why other alarms like ABS, Air Bag and Engine show up on the console. If the battery is completely discharged, is it possible that ECU may malfunction and alarms show up?

Was doing some reading up yesterday after our discussion on WA and realized that all these could be totally unrelated.
- ABS could be because of the transducer/sensor that sits near the wheels. If not placed right or has stopped working, it could trigger the warning. Quiet possible given the MLD change
- Airbags could be because of any tweaking of seatbelts. Faced this when I had my seatbelts replaced. The connectors were not fixed properly and the circuit was broken, which triggered the airbag alarm
- Engine - is this the Malfunction lamp or CEL that you are talking about. Again hypothesis is that some sensor like the MAF or O2 sensor is loose or this could be because of the discharged battery. Given the number of things that can cause a CEL, will need to check error codes to figure out what is causing this.
Did you go check the car yesterday? Did they scan for error codes? My suggestion would be to push them and not accept the failed alternator theory. In general IG is very lazy and they wont really bother checking anything else once the Senior Service folks declare that its the alternator. Do ask them for a battery load test report to ensure that they are actually addressing the right problem and not just shooting in the dark.

That about sums it up - the nightmare ownership experiences of the expensive imports are probably fewer - only because their numbers on our roads are far smaller too. But as a percentage they'll probably have as many niggles, if not more, than the domestic.
Owning a TUV is a breeze in comparison.

If the differential housing is without oil (as you suspected) and someone drives off in such a car, he would go about 15-20 kms only, before coming to a grinding halt - with a ruined differential. I guess in such a scenario, we would probably be hearing a good deal about ruined MLDs!
Guys, I have been trying to get the initial niggles fixed in my month old TUV. One of them being mild to slightly more than mild whistling sound when I accelerate. Folks at service center checked for any air leak and couldn't find anything abnormal. They say that it's there in other TUVs also. Does anyone also have any such sound coming from their TUV?
Also, trying to find a solution for a high coolant usage. Checked the entire line and there is zero leakage. Absolutely dry engine bay and yet coolant consumption remains more than normal. Wondering what could be the issue!
Except for these and some rattling sound, the car is beautiful to drive and we love every bit of it.

Hi Ambujlal,
One of the Service technicians at the MASS here mentioned that the new TUVs (vehicles from May'17)come with MLD fitted, so did your vehicle come with MLD fitted from factory? If so, it could be the similar issue that I have been facing (refer this post
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/offici...ml#post4223124) since my TUV was retrofitted with MLD.
Cheers,
Sathya

Thanks, Sathya.
No, my car doesn't come with MLD and I don't think that TUVs are getting with manufactured with MLD as default. However, I may be completely off the mark here.

I got my tank back from India Garage, ITPL this evening. Issues seem to be resolved. They have replaced the alternator and front seat belts under warranty. They have also ordered a radiator/coolant hose, which will be replaced later. The explanation why alternator had malfunctioned is that coolant fluid went inside the alternator. I believe, that did not happen while vehicle was in motion. I have minor coolant leak issue for sometime, which I don't loose in liquid form but in gaseous form. Looks like India Garage, Peenya while trying to fix coolant leak somehow released either coolant or sealant into the alternator. The alternator is right next to the hose joint where I have leakage problem.
The explanation for ABS alarm was that something was loose in the drivers seat belt and both the front seat belts are replaced. I spoke to the service manager and co-tech. They said MLD is working fine. They test drove for about 25 kms and after that I have driven another 15 kms. The vehicle is much smoother now. No alarms and things are working properly. Static bending lamps are working.
Attached is the screenshot of error messages captured from the ECU.

This could be the whistle from the turbo once you get to the 1700 RPM range. Even I could hear this when the car is new but then after a while it just fades away. If its a very slight sound that you are straining to hear, then it should be the turbo but if its something audible even with ambient road sounds, then you might need to figure out whats wrong.
