TD'd the automatic captur and was thorughly disappointed, the long travel pedals, needing to look down on the RVMs, and the A and C pillar blind spots made it very hard to even consider it in the city, though highway drives may be OK. Body roll is there too. Ruled it out, though I find the looks, size and build near perfect.

AT Captur? When was that launched? Did you TD the petrol or diesel?

I checked with the dealer here in Mumbai- they have one specific variant only in stock which they want to clear and hence offering discounts of around 2L.

He was honest enough to state the fact that Renault got the pricing completely wrong for Captur which according to him was one of the reasons the car bombed

Did you speak to Neerav Shah of benchmark motors? I was too said the same.

But looking from a long term perspective the resale value would be almost scrap looking at the success of Captur.

They still have the Captur diesel variant I guess. Even if one buys with a lot of disxounts, the maintainence will be on a higher side on a long run. Spares if different from Duster may not be available and could take a waiting time.

Oops. My bad. I meant the top end petrol Captur - Platine. There isnt an automatic, though the SA told me its in the works.

There is no Platine variant for the petrol Captur. As of now, the top end petrol variant is the RXT which is one level below the Plantine variant which is only available with a diesel engine.

But the SA told me clearly that the TD vehicle is the Platine, the top end (as is the usual case). As I didnt like the drive at all, I just thanked him, said no and moved out. Didnt look through the variants at all - suppose I wouldve found out had I gone through the brochure.. The shape, build and size of the vehicle is nice, but thats not enough.

Mechanically car is same as Duster, hence service cost is same.

Yesterday, I met with a minor accident and broke ORVM blinker. The part alone is replaceable and cost me only 350 Rs. The whole glossy black ORVM cover cost is only 180 Rs.

I am glad to report that, Captur is really cheap to own.

Sorry to bust your bubble bro. What you got is only the bandaid. Wait till the big tickets items start failing in a couple of years. Best not to count chickens before they are born.

We have five duster's between me, my business partner, brother etc and 4 of them have clocked close to a lakh, so I can tell you for sure that things aren't cheap. Most mechanical parts are shared between Captur and Duster.

But, I had a Duster before Captur. Never had any major issues.

That is one major reason for me to opt for Captur, since both share most of their mechanical parts.

Today I saw 6 Capturs being getting readied for delivery on same day. That too same colour and variant! (effect of offer on 2017 models).

It clearly shows only problem with Captur was wrong pricing.

Hi. I just wanted to share my experience with my new Captur RXT.

A great summary indeed! But I must admit slightly in the car's favour! :)

Yes even I have a soft corner for the car given I drive a Duster. The only point I wonder, if one has been driving a Duster, would one think of Captur as an Upgrade ? I doubt that. But if I am looking at a lateral upgrade, will I take it ? Surely yes. Given now I have the familiarity of Renault service in town.

Its great car indeed. But Renault also needs to realize, post Duster introduction, there are much better/similar spec'ed and built products. And hence Captur's price point is the one which matters. Its a good drive and may be better than a Creta. But can it come close to its interiors. May be not. And its here, where all the daggers come out.

In terms of boot space, ride and power, I surely would take Captur, provided we get a better price power. An AWD would have been even better; though it does not go rather well with its upmarket urban hatch like silhouette.

I also see Renault getting aggressive marketing campaign, where Autocar has been taking it through some very difficult roads in North and Northeast.

I was told that Caputer's are going for Rs 4 lakh discounts. This is unverified.

The whole issue with the Captur is the positioning of the Brand and the Model. Renault are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Abroad, the Duster is the budget brand and this suits the Duster as anhonest workhorse. Renault carries a slightly more premium image. This is reflected in the interiors.

The question is how can the Captur carry it off over here. Considering the nice body and the slightly more premium, there is nothing else to justify the high premium. What is going to be even more awkward is when the new Duster comes in which is vastly superior in finish.

The Captur would have worked if the Dacia brand was sold alongside. Heck, Nissan are so confused with the Datsun so I doubt the Rebel Alliance even know whats happening.

Yes in the West the Dacia duster is priced at par with the likes of Ecosport and is touted as a reliable workhorse with cheap interiors. But then, at that kind of price point one can't ignore it's capabilities specially in the AWD variants. So it does provide good value. Heck even in India it could have been priced around Ecosport if we didn't have the stupid 4m rule in action!

With the Captur the Renault folks under-estimated the Indian auto enthusiasts by portraying it as the European Captur. They didn't have the guts to say that it is based on the more than decade old platform. That's where they lost it. Also the interiors weren't much better when compared to the duster. If you are paying 15 lakhs you expect good interiors, period!

Let's hope that Nissan makes a more honest effort with Kicks. The platform and engine is going to be the same. Let's hope they provide the exact interiors that they provide in Europe with a plethora of features and I guess then they have a winner in their hands.

As far as the looks go, Kicks should entice more public when compared to the Captur as the former has a more boxy design which aids to a butch design. The Captur on the other hand looked nice, but didn't look like a SUV.
