Been driving the 4x4 P AT almost a year. 7 - 8.4 km/l is what I get. Thar P, means a lot of visits to the petrol pump every month. It is bad, but the Jeep has an engine, that pulls and just pulls. It's pure rush.

Here's a concise summary of my Bangalore to Nahan solo drive in Mahindra Thar Petrol Manual (4WD):

Trip Overview

Several factors likely contributed to this exceptional performance -

Night Driving: Traveling during night-time means less traffic and fewer stops.
Cruise Control Usage could be one reason.
Steady Driving Habits: Maintaining speeds between 75–85 km/h, with occasional surges to 100–110 km/h.
AC was used consistently.
Vehicle Maturity: With my Thar having covered 53,555 km, the engine is well broken-in, which can lead to improved fuel efficiency compared to a brand-new vehicle.

Overall mileage, tank to tank is 15 kmpl for this highway run. City mileage in Chandigarh/Nahan/Shimla is 9 or 10.
While in Bangalore is 7 to 8.

Those are some unbelievable figures coming from petrol version, as I haven't experienced anyone having been able to achieve those numbers even in the diesel avtar.

So I would say that around 50% of drive was during evenings and late nights till early mornings. So AC won't be running on full blast. I was alone with just three baggages, 70L and two 40L.
Cruise was used whenever I got the opportunity, I was testing the mileage with speed all along the way.
Once I found the sweet spot, I extracted as much as I could.

That's an amazing mileage for a Petrol 4x4 AT.

Mine is an RWD and I recently did a BLR-Wayanad-BLR (610 kms carpark to carpark) trip, my first outstation one in Thar. We were two in the car along with luggage. Most of BLR-MYS stretch was at <100 kmph as we were on the new expressway, however did touch 120+ in the Gundlupet-Sultan Bathery section. There were some ghat sections and under construction roads from Bathery to Meppadi where the Thar was in 1st or 2nd gears. On the way back we took the Gundlupet-Kanakpura route, the roads were fantastic and could exceed 120 in some stretches.

Calculated in the tank-full method I got a mileage of 9.5 kmpl. This is 30% more than the 7.1 kmpl I average in BLR city driving. Looks like my highway mileage is significantly lower as compared to the 15.0 kmpl you mentioned, but that could be cos of my driving and the fact that Turbo petrols are sensitive to throttle inputs. We seem to be in the ballpark on city mileage though. JFYI...my Thar just crossed 2000 kms in the ODO.

BTW...I was expecting a bumpy ride and had warned my co-passenger (owns a Jeep Compass) who frequents this route to his Ooty farmhouse. However, he didn't have any complaints on that count and neither did I feel that the drive was bumpy. Of course, you can't compare it to the sedans, and my SUV experience is of my BIL's 2nd gen Fortuner which I have driven extensively, and I think is more bumper than the Thar, esp in the middle row.

Attaching some clicks from the trip.

Thats some stellar mileage. I would also get the same mileage when cruising at 90 kmph on highways, except mine was a Diesel AT.

Were you hypermiling ?

Mine is a manual petrol, but it was very hard to drive it under 85 kmph, that mstallion engine always likes to gulp more fuel as there is a voice coming from the engine in my ears, saying - drive fast. But I think since the vehicle has done 54000 kms, so the engine has settled in. Plus other factors also played their role. :D
