I have a different point of view. Chamios interiors are more forgiving to dust and dirt and won’t highlight these, the way black does.

Have two kids and the car has 35k kms in a year. Chamois interiors have stood well against the test of time so far.

Hi , Need advice. I have 2021 April Fortuner. Lately the Auto stop/start frequency has been reduced and usually the message on the display console is Battery Charing. Is this time to replace the car Battery?

Yes, This is the same symptom I faced couple of months back. Auto start stop frequency reduced and I decided to check the battery at an FNG. The battery failed the crank voltage drop test. It was going to less than 8v or so while cranking. Replaced the battery with an Exide. Mine is also a 2021 4x4 AT.

Less than 4 years sounds quite quite low for a battery. Definitely something to do with the Auto start-stop system.

Thanks.Got the battery check done from 36 Toyota today, and they did thorough test before declaring the battery is dead for any future use. As per the service guy, the consumption is more in Automatic. Anyways got the new one , as do not want to carry the risk

Is that covered in the warranty?

Mine is 2021 Aug, I felt starter struggling a bit few days back after the car being not used for a week, and thought it might be the cold Bangalore weather since 26 months is a short period for battery replacement. After running through these posts, I feel it is the same issue with mine as well. I recollect seeing the message that battery is charging!

Good point, i have not even tried for same :unhappy Infact the issue started 3-4 months back, so effectively 26-28 months only, its now that i attempted RCA via best troubleshooting framework in the World i.e. Teambhp lol:

Thanks for this detailed review. I recently had to let go of my Fortuner (2013 Model) as it reached 10 yrs in NCR and now am planning to go for Petrol AT. My concern is that with 80-90 units sale per month, would it make sense for Toyota to continue the Petrol version, once the new Fortuner arrives. Assuming the the new Fortuner will be a mild hybrid (petrol or diesel), would it make sense for them to continue the Petrol variant? How did you think through this dilemma? Anyone else can help me with this decision, as my booked Petrol AT is already there with the dealer and I am suddenly having cold feet due to this doubt!

What exactly are you worried about? If Toyota launches a petrol-hybrid version, the current 2.7L petrol is definitely going to get binned. But even if that happens, there will be no problems for the existing Petrol Fortuner owners.
On a side note, any reason for going with the Fortuner Petrol over the Hycross?

Thanks for the reassurance! I thought quite a lot over the Fortuner Petrol Vs Hycross choice. Eventually decided in favor of Fortuner Petrol due to its road presence, reliability and the fact that my family absolutely loved the earlier Fortuner. My last car clocked 60K Kms in 10 years and so mileage is not that a big factor for me. The difference between Hycross VXO & Petrol AT is 8 lacs, with the battery change cost also a small factor (albeit unlikely) after 8.5 yrs in the Hycross. Though logically, Hycross (esp if I chose the VX) would still be a more practical solution, the heart (& wife!) is just set on a Fortuner. Moreover Hycross wait times mean that I would have to have a stop gap arrangement for 6-8 months, which would also have a cost implication.

57,000 kms Update

Furteela Ghonga 2.0 has been chugging miles happily and has completed 57,000 kms in about 15 months. Since work and travel is keeping me busy from writing a full fledged ownership review let me use this thread to post some updates here:

• DPF has been working without any issue. Adblue consumption has dropped since the early days of ownership.
• Distance between successive tankful is about 4000-4500 kms
• Toyota should have given 15-20 liter Adblue tank
• I have been using IOCL / HPCL branded 20L buckets of Adblue for the past 25-30k kms. Service advisor confirmed that there is no issue in using any locally sourced liquid as well.
• This costs ~70-80 Rs/liter as against ~110 Rs/liter from Toyota
• Sedate driving in the 80-100 kmph speed range gives an astounding mileage of 13-14 kmpl but it sure is difficult to sustain given the engine is such a hoot to drive!
• Headlamps and fogs are absolutely useless in even medium foggy conditions. Planning to upgrade at least the fogs soon.
• I prefer tyre pressure of 31-32 PSI which I have found is the sweet spot for balancing comfort and FE. While topping up I set it to 32 and let it get to 28 before topping up again.
• First pair of front brake pads were replaced at 50,000 kms service although they could have stretched to 60-65k. This is more than double the distance compared to my previous 2016 4x4 AT :thumbs up
• Max service cost so far was Rs 24,000 in which brake pads were replaced. Average cost per paid service has been Rs. 16,000 excluding Adblue which costs Rs. 1500 per 10k. Cost includes WA/WB.
• I had replaced the stock Bridgestone Dueller HT with Yokohama Geolandar G015 AT right out of the showroom. Two of those were damaged beyond repair at around 34,000 kms mark and were replaced under warranty by Yokohama. This was a very pleasant experience as there was no questions asked.
• I think the stock tyres will last another 15-20k kms easily

Overall the ownership experience has been good as is the case with most Toyotas. Leaving you with some recent pictures of FG2 :)

My Fortuner 2018 model is now at 96500 kms. The brake pads have never been replaced but now I heard a squeak coming run on light braking while reversing or when the car is inching forward and brake is applied lightly. No issues on hard braking yet. I'm wondering though whether to send the car now to get the brake pads checked or wait till the odo is at 1lac and service is due. I did skip for the first time the 5000 kms inspection at 95k kms since i bought the car and I guess the squeaking is a way of reminding me that I skipped it!
