Mahindra XUV700 Review

Looking at the ever shooting cost of the fuel, if above figures turn out close to factual figures, XUV 7oo will be a big gas guzzler. I might wait for the upgraded version of Alcazar and also observe XUV 7oo's real life performance in the meanwhile and then decide. Alcazar Diesel has a weak engine for the body bulk it carries, but Hyundai's experience is much more niggle free & they have much better after sales service. If above perceived fuel figures are close to factual figures, an Alcazar Petrol AT also seems a pretty decent option.
Decisions, Decisions........I'm more confused than ever.

The petrol version of XUV doesn't make much sense considering the petrol prices which will reach probably 150 next year. Alcazar doesn't really feel like an SUV. It feels more like a sedan and considering I already have a Verna I will probably give it a miss.
Have you confirmed the Alcazar petrol automatic mileage? My petrol Verna AT gives around 8-10 in the city and 15 on the highways and only makes 120 bhp.
You are right about the Hyundai service, they really treat you like a king!
The only options that I am thinking of are the AX7L XUV700 and Harrier XZA+. The Jeep Compass is also a great option but a lot more expensive and feels cramped compared to the Indian SUVs.

Great to see an AT AWD below 25 lakhs. Just this variant will help it establish the SUV credentials compared to Safari. Tried out the configurator and found that only AX7 variants have the grill with silver teeth. The AX3-5 variants look so much better because of the blacked teeth-like structure. It should be straightforward to swap the grills for people who hate that animal-like face.
On another note, midnight black shows up as a kind of blue in the configurator. Hope this is real black and not bluish black.

You are spot on about the micro hybrid being just start stop function. And it is already present in my 2014 Scorpio. The start stop function is activated only when the vehicle comes to a standstill with engine still running.Will
definetly not help in increasing the mileage.
Not sure about the petrol since it is unchartered territory but based on my experience of using 2.2 mhawk we can expect a highway mileage of 13-14 kmpl for the manual.

See a lot of excitement about the AWD part but how good is that given that XUV is a relatively heavy vehicle? Do we have any experience about the capabilities of this AWD since even XUV500 had it?

Yeah. I am still not able to get my head aroud the fact that Mahindra is selling a car with a Panoramic sunroof without ACC and armrest. Will probably be the only such car on sale in the world probably clap:
Alcazar and Hector look much better specced from base and mid trims in comparison.

M&M's hand may have been forced by the current chip situation to spec variants like they have now but it actually forces prospective customers also to make a choice if they want L-features or they want an AWD.
A lot of us keeps saying that we would buy an AWD given the choice and that's exactly what M&M is giving us now.
But the flip side is that if the adoption is low, they have all the right to scrap this AWD option on the XUV700 and then we do not really have a right to complain.
Disappointed that the AWD cannot be clubbed with the luxury pack, and judging by the responses here, there are many in the same boat. I guess it was not completely unexpected and I am sure Mahindra will launch this variant in some time, but it will probably be after a few price hikes. Not ideal, but I will wait before I book.
After seeing the variants am wondering which is the top end
For SUV Lovers - AX7 AWD is the top-end
For Tech Lovers - AX7L is the top-end
Probably, there could be a possibility to see AX7L AWD after the initial niggles are sorted out.

This is because it is dark blue and not actually black. This will create a lot of confusion for prospective customers.

Well, even if it is the dumbest AWD out there, it should still be better than an FWD car. And it is the cheapest one available now. The next AWD 7 seater is Tiguan Allspace and that is 60% more expensive at 42L on road. So we don't really have many options to choose from.

While we have discussed at length why AWD is good to have, the presence in only AT with a premium of 3 Lakh OTR is something I fail to understand. Is it justified for just additional AWD and no other extra features over AX7?
