Phone is getting connected to Wi-Fi name of Virtus head unit as shown below. Also if you see in previous screenshots, the CarPlay is active which means phone is connected to car.

I need some help choosing between the Volkswagen Virtus GT Sport DSG and the Skoda Slavia 1.5 Monte Carlo.

I have been in love with the Virtus ever since its launch, mainly because of its design. Now that it's finally time to buy a new car I have started visiting showrooms and checking out options. I checked out Virtus, Slavia, and Verna. Performance-wise, the Verna felt almost on par with the others but I personally didn’t like its front-end design, speedometer layout & the steering wheel is really confusing so I have ruled it out.

The Slavia Monte Carlo came into the picture for two main reasons:
  1. Looks – The Monte Carlo edition especially in the red and black combination looks stunning. I have a soft spot for this combo. I currently own a red Figo with black alloys and grille. While you can get a similar look with the Virtus I feel the shade of red on the Slavia is slightly better.
  2. Price – In Pune, the on-road price of the Virtus GT Sport is around ₹22.90L, while the Slavia Monte Carlo is about ₹21.32L. Even after factoring in discounts the difference remains close to ₹1 lakh.
Second point is where my confusion really escalated.

I’m still about 60% inclined towards the Virtus again because of the design as I feel it will age well but then Skoda upped the game with Monte Carlo. From a technical standpoint I feel both cars are about 90% identical except for differences in the front and rear design, and the dashboard layout.

Now I’m unsure whether I should ignore the price difference and go ahead with the Virtus. Is it really worth paying ₹1 lakh extra or should I just go with the Slavia?

Looking forward to fellow your views on this. Also, please let me know if I’m missing any other key differences between the two.
A few months ago, I found myself in a similar situation — I was quite taken by the Virtus and was almost ready to book it after several test drives. However, I decided to try the Slavia as well, and I found its suspension to be noticeably softer and more compliant, especially on city roads. That made a significant difference for me in terms of everyday comfort.

To confirm, I test-drove the Virtus once again immediately afterward, and the difference in ride quality was quite apparent. In the end, I felt the Slavia was better suited for daily driving needs.

Additionally, I found that the Virtus was around ₹2 lakh more expensive than the Slavia. Taking everything into account, I opted for the Slavia Monte Carlo in white, and I’ve been very happy with my decision.

One minor thing I noticed is that the Slavia doesn't come with rear fog lamps, which the Virtus does offer — but in my view, it's a relatively small omission.

Just sharing my personal experience and perspective — both are great cars, and I don’t think you can go wrong with either choice.

Check your phone network settings. There should be an option to use Mobile network when no internet on WiFi.

Android Auto and Carplay use Wifi in addition to Bluetooth for connection, cannot be avoided. I will try to find the setting and post later.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

Hello everyone,

Has anyone faced an issue with the transmission in AT? I drive a 1.5 GT and have lately been noticing a lag and jerk while in low gear. This is happening predominantly in city traffic, and the gear shifting is very*noticeable.

The ASC performed diagnostics and the K1 / K2 values were around 1.34*and*1.86*mm. They are yet to share any conclusion/ resolution. Meanwhile can anyone shed some light on how to proceed further and if this is the most dreaded DSG issue in VAG Cars?

Even I felt on similar lines; during ingress to driver's seat in Slavia, my foot was hitting the sill. But the same was not the case in Virtus.

On open roads, the same tall gearing is a joy, with second very comfy between 60-80kph. This engine wasn't made for the city, despite the small capacity.
Thanks Cayman360, you exactly articulated. The clutch part was also one more thing which I did not enjoy. Now I am planning to TD 1.0 AT as well. Let's see how it works out for me.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

Hi BHPians,

I have a query regarding a feature that's documented in web, but I faced an issue with it on the highway.

I was driving from Hyderabad to Bhopal and suddenly I heard weird creaking noise from front side of the car. I drove the car further for about 2 kms and the noise just got higher. A local mechanic took out the wheel to find out that the brake pads are completely worn out. I further drove to nearest VW service center in Nagpur that was about 80 kms away, and that resulted in both the discs getting damaged as well.

Question - Does VW Virtus come with brake pad sensor? The manuals seems to say so, but none of the lights turned on in the dashboard.

We noticed it in the rear seats but maybe there is a degree of it in the front? ;
Not sure if the footwell in Slavia/Kushaq is deeper and/or the B-pillar is closer to the rear seat squab? Wheelbase is identical in the two cars!

It is sad to know that you had to undergo that trouble. I do not think it comes with a brake pad wear sensor. One needs to inspect physically based on the kilometers of usage. Additionally, you can feel the difference in bites when you apply brakes if the brake pads are wearing out slowly.

Would say a great choice. The car is a definite looker and standout among current lot of sedans in India. You decision to ceramic coat the car early is a great decision. It definitely helps retain the clear coat and maintenance becomes much easier.

Congratulations and happy driving

I know you said you tried everything. Before you reset just see this option under 'Cellular', in case it got turned off anyhow.
Cellular --> Wi-Fi Assist ...It should be On.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

There's a hissing sound every time I press the start button and the AC gets started. It lasts for initial one minute or so, and goes off once the vehicle is in motion. Is this normal? Or the compressor should be checked? Or the gas flow is low? Or some issue with the refrigerant?

Has anyone encountered the same? I contacted the dealership, and they suggested to wait for first one month or 1000 km before getting it checked at the SVC. It's been just 10 days. Won't it worsen if I wait another 20 days?

Please opine and advise.

This is quite normal as i have observed when i bought my car as well. It will eventually go away. Might take few months, but it is a known phenomenon.

Exactly why i went for the 1.0MT HighLine in 2024 January. Now that you also the GT line to choose form, i would suggest going for the 1.0MT GT line variant, if you feel the 1.5 is a huge stretch.
