Deliveries to start this month.
While I am not going to comment on the overall pricing, Mercedes-Benz has priced the 300d at a reasonable premium over the 220d. By paying 10% more you knock off almost 2 seconds from the 0-100 timing. Not to forget the additional features on offer.

That puts the starting price of the C at 70L OTR Bangalore, just like the dealers had hinted. For a car that costs 44K USD, this is obnoxious. It’s 90k USD in India, yes I know the taxes are super lame here and I stay in India, but still it doesn’t make financial sense to me personally.

This is the only sane element in their pricing!

While the car looks fantastic and could be a brilliant option for the self driven buyer; for the chauffeur driven buyer - the base trim ES300 / Audi A6 / 3GL are just better buys overall.

It seems between BMW & Mercedes, they've got the enthusiast buyers staggered to ensure there is no overlap.
- Enthusiast Petrol Self Drive : 330i M Sport
- Enthusiast Diesel Self Drive : C300D

Pricing aside, which is worrying as it's only a matter of time before the segment updates their pricing to match Mercedes, it seems Mercedes has fixed a few issues that were a deterrent for prospective buyers of the previous gen C-Class : rear seat comfort (though the backrest seems a little too upright), ride & handling, and a good bump up in the feature set too.
Hope to take one for a test drive soon, just to compare especially on the suspension & ground clearance bit.
The latter is a little surprising as the LWB E Class has pretty good ground clearance : with the SA egging me on too tackle speed breakers at a little more speed; and similarly our W205 C220d has been quite good on the few road trips we've taken it on.

Re: 2022 Mercedes C-Class Review

I’d agree with the sentiment that the C300d is not that overpriced, but I think the pricing is definitely on the higher side on the whole.

The C200 should find few takers versus the A4 or 330i/Li, with the C220 the hotseller of this range. The C300 isn’t a bad proposition, but the 340i is only a little more money, and boasts a seriously meaty 3.0 liter power plant. And that’s before you even consider cross-shopping with the A6 and the likes.

I still can’t fathom how Merc is selling a 1.5 liter petrol engine at this price point. I just can’t palate it, especially since they have a 2.0 turbo petrol available internationally.

Personally, I’d pick a 330i over this, or a 340i if I want to really push the boat out.

Re: 2022 Mercedes C-Class Review

Enthusiasts will have their eye on the C300d, until they realise the mighty BMW M340i is priced a very-reasonable 5-lakhs more. You get performance at an entirely different level (0-100 in 4.4 seconds), 6-cylinders, AWD, almost 400 BHP, a lovely exhaust note, 7000 rpm, a faster gearbox and arguably better long-term reliability.

Of course, with the C300d, you'll enjoy diesel economy which makes it way more practical for heavy runners, or those long highway trips.

I love the new C-Class. But it has serious competition from below & above its price range. The 3-Series is an enthusiast's delight (has a LWB version too), the A4 is value-for-money, while the S60 is an extremely impressive machine. Would just ignore the Jaguar XE from the competition list due to its dimwitted AT gearbox.

Good time to be shopping in the segment.

Not me for sure.

I’ve realised that on forums, most people who do give well meaning advice or opinions haven’t got real world experience to back it up. Exceptions, as in everything, exist, of course.

Re: 2022 Mercedes C-Class Review

Wow, I am unable to think what the marketing folks at Mercedes Benz were thinking when they came up with this pricing! Looks like the 10L+ discount era is going to return albeit at a different home this time (Mercedes Benz instead of Audi)

Re: 2022 Mercedes C-Class Review

While the car is wonderful, they've overpriced it by 5 lacs as compared t the competition. On its own the car may seem worth the price, but definitely not when you compare it against whats available out there at 5 lacs above and below.

Re: 2022 Mercedes C-Class Review

Wow, 70 lakhs OTR for a 1.5 litre engine! Irrespective of all the luxury, who actually buys such a small engine paying that money? I know the engine output is 200bhp and 300nm torque, but believe it will be the maximum that they would have extracted from that engine.
Or this is mainly targetted for the chaufer driven people.

Re: 2022 Mercedes C-Class Review

68 lakhs OTR Bangalore for the C class. C200 and 76 lakhs OTR Bangalore for the C300d. Is Mercedes-Benz India gone mad? Even the 330Li costs almost the same, while the 320Ld is cheaper than the C220d. Also, 7 lakhs more than the C300d, you can get the M340i which is way superior to the C300d in terms of everything except mileage. The torque difference between the C300d and the M340i is just 50nm. The M340i has 6 cylinder powertrain, AWD and what not. Even the discounted A6 looks like a steal in front of the C class.

The C would be hard sell IMHO until he/she is a Merc fan or is attracted by it's design. BMW India would be happy after seeing the C class's prices.

Re: 2022 Mercedes C-Class Review

The new W206 C is R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S-L-Y overpriced.

Just remembered how the A4 was bashed left, right and centre when it was launched with the 1.4L TSI a few years ago, today Merc has launched the C with a 1.5L petrol at 55L ex-showroom, just let that sink in!

Forget the regular wheelbase 3 series, they have gone and priced it even higher than the 3 Gran Limousine!

Bring the 330Li into picture in front of the 1.5L C-Class and you will be blown away by how brilliant that the 3GL is in terms of space, performance and price!

And the less I talk about the C300d the better, a regular 330i matches it’s performance with aplomb and it’s a full 10 Lakh cheaper than the C300d. So the C300d gets bashed both from the bottom by the 330i and 340i from the above, okay diesel efficiency is a separate topic.

I’ll happily take the A4 with some discounts, and keep the rest for its expenses! :

Even an A6 is a better proposition than the 1.5L C:
2022 Mercedes C-Class Review-4c4ea1274fd64434882a4aa86ee3f39a.jpeg

A segment above ES300h (with the real ‘Hybrid wizardry’) is just 2L OTR away from the 1.5L C200:
2022 Mercedes C-Class Review-d33330c224cf45e1874a0f00142fef7f.jpeg

Heck my dad had paid 58L ex-showroom (69L OTR) for a X3 30i Luxury Line just 6 months ago!! The 1.5L C is 55L ex-showroom (65L OTR).

There will obviously be buyers flocking to dealerships to pick up the “Baby S”. It can also become the new bestseller in it's segment, just like the E-Class is at (E200) 78L OTR and GLC at (GLC 200) 73L OTR.

Obviously. The C class is dead on arrival now. Enthusiasts would prefer the 3 series or those who want comfort would go for the 3 series Gran Limousine or the discounted A6 anyday. The C class is neither here nor there.

68 lakhs on road Bangalore for the C200 that too with a 1.5L petrol engine and C300d for 78 lakh on road Bangalore . Is Mercedes-Benz India gone mad? The W206 C-class is O-V-E-R-P-R-I-C-E-D. The C costs more than the 3 series Gran Limousine now. Heck, even the discounted A6 and the base Lexus ES300H look like steal in front of the C class. Also what's rubbish is that this 78 lakh rupee C300d doesn't even get keyless entry.

The C would sell anyways because it's a Mercedes and mini S-class. Give me the 330i or discounted A6 45 TFSI or the base Lexus ES300H over this overpriced C-class any day.

Re: 2022 Mercedes C-Class Review

Feel relieved that i picked up the BMW 330Li in January and didn't wait for the new Mercedes C class. C class has better interiors but the 330Li comes ahead with regards to space as well as overall driving experience. With similar pricing, i believe the 330Li to be a better package overall as against the c200. Expect BMW to slowly start inching the 3 LWB prices now as they would ideally want to position it a bit higher than the entry-level C class.

Couple of months down the line, BMW will hike prices and we should see some interest in C class, especially C220D. the C200 will probably sold with good discounts in sometime. At this rate we will soon see entry luxury cars sniffing 1Cr price tag(for the performance variant atleast). Enthusiasts who love diesel will start eyeing the C300D, which has significant advantage interms of performance over the 320D.

Re: 2022 Mercedes C-Class Review

The C Class pricing although is not very surprising given Merc's standards, but honestly why would anyone pick it over a 3 Series Gran Limousine? It's got the space, it's got more than acceptable amount of tech, and it's just more car for the money being priced just above the entry level C.
