Mahindra Thar Roxx Review
(

Is there a way to track the booking if done through dealer & not online ?
I am able to view the booking through the "M4U" app & also online, but not able to track it. Also, I have only received a Booking confirmation mail from Mahindra but there is no Tentative Date as such. Is there some other mail yet to come or am I missing something here?

Sadly I have no news so far. I'll call the dealer up tomorrow to check.
Today, I saw the first Roxx on road (other than test drive vehicles), it was AX7L 4X4 in green and it looked so good!
In the section, "Variants and Pricing", there is a link for "View all specification" - this is still showing wired Apple CarPlay being made available in lower variants. This is where I have always looked at the specs. However, it looks like the Brochure may be the latest as it says Apple CarPlay is "coming" in other variants and we know this is the reality as reported by many who have received their vehicle. Anyway, it would be best if MX3 / MX5 owners can check and confirm.

The earlier brochures mentioned Apple Carplay available as 'wired' and android auto 'wired & wireless' for the MX3 variant. The brochure downloaded from Mahindra website now shows that Apple Carplay is not available on the MX3 or MX5 (only available on the 'AX.." variants). This is a big miss for Apple users, as we will have to go back to the phone holder times. |
Silent withdrawal of Apple CarPlay from lower variants is definitely not appreciated especially after showing it as included earlier. Of course the manufacturer has the right to make changes to the specifications without an obligation to inform anyone, but still... wonder what else has been removed!

Not tried it on a Roxx, but I have a XL6 6AT and same issue, the paddle shifters are not really useful because early upshifts before 2k or so are not allowed and even holding gears rarely helps. The DSGs are better but that too after 2nd gear only. 1st gear in DSG manual is terrible, it drags beyond 2k in 1st for no reason. So yes, early shifting isn't too much of an option for most gearboxes, specifically shorter gears at city speeds.
I did two back-to-back test drives with my family and both were the top end with 19 inches. The ride quality was so bad that I had to cancel my booking with a heavy heart. Then we tried the XUV700 top end and it was rather the opposite one. The ride quality was so plush and we decided to get an XUV700 instead of the Roxx. Thanks a ton to GTO, in his long list he did mention an important point to get others in the family to do a test drive which helped. Will plan the 3-door at a later stage but as of now it's the XUV700 Midnight Black!

Did you check the tyre pressure? Strange to see such disparity in the experience of ride quality. For me the ride quality was fine.

Hi all, on the Thar Roxx diesel AT RWD, is it possible to get a better mileage by using the manual gear option to upshift. I tried doing it on my car, but it does not permit to upshift till a certain speed and rpm level. For example, upshift only at 30 or 50 kmph and 2000 rpm. Any guidance will be helpful. Thanks |
Mahindra likes to tune their powertrains to be responsive and give a feeling of instantaneous access to power in any gear. This means the AT gearbox tuning is such that upshifts happen at higher RPMs compared to other ATs. Even after the upshift, they want the engine to still run at a relatively higher RPM in the next gear, this ensures that the car is in the meat of the powerband always and can respond to throttle inputs instantly. The penalty is that FE will be lower than other similar cars. FE of the 2.2 mHawk on my Thar 3D has never crossed single digits in city driving. This is the reason upshifts are disabled at lower RPMs in the AT.

Did you get any notification from Mahindra for this or did the salesperson inform you?
Has the status of your booking changed on auto.mahindra.com ? |
Status of booking has not changed on the website. I was informed over the phone by the dealership. Also it's still showing 2 bookings under my name
No modifications at all! No accessories. My 15 year old Scorpio 4WD is also completely stock. Even the light bulbs that get replaced are with the 'Blue Vision' bulbs which are like nuclear fuel to find for purchase. Downside of being a Purist :D

For those who are getting their car delivered, is the delivery date as per the date shared by Mahindra, or are you getting it before the date? |
It's coming in before the date

Yes. Now I just want to have it over with and get my hands on it! Most likely I'll have to go back to work in about a month so I want to put in a few good road trips before that!

I saw the first AX7L on the city roads about 10 days ago (non test drive). However that was a 2WD (as there was no 4x4 badging on it, couldn't peep inside to confirm). I've been told that the first batches of AX7L 4x4 MT have only now started rolling out to the dealers. So there might be some movement happening for all the AX7L 4WD candidates now

Definitely the tyre pressure, the ride quality is definitely not as plush as XUV700 but not bad either.

I am going back tomorrow to check this. Would the dealers be so careless since this is the most important point that anyone will look out for? One more question, is the 19 inches also contributing to the bad ride quality? My booking was not for the top end anyway and it would be 18 inches only.

That’s great news for everyone. hope to get it soon

There are many posts in this thread regarding bad ride quality due to the high tyre pressure. I guess it may help if you take a look.
You can expect a better ride quality with 18inch but not sure how much would be the difference.

Guys in future, it would be great if Test drive experiences are mentioned while also mentioning Tyre pressure. My neighbour test drove the Roxx and he mentioned tyre pressure at the rear was 40, and it was bouncing like a basket ball. After reducing pressure to 32, the ride had some jiggle on bad roads at slow speed, but was much much improved.
I will be mostly be taking a test drive this week or the next. |

I downsized from 19 inches to 18 leading to marginally better ride quality. But the improvement in ride quality was substantial once I reduced the tyre pressure from 34 to 32.

In my mind, there would be lot of cancellations and all of us would get vehicles earlier than mentioned. I don't believe all 200k people who booked on the first day really want to own Thar. Currently my delivery date mentioned is May 2026 but SA has already reached out to me to check if I am okay to take MX5 AT or AX5L AT 4x4 couple of times though I have booked AX7L AT 4x4. I am open to take AX5L AT 4x4 but I am waiting for some real life ownership experiences before taking my delivery.
