I love this comment rl:

Thar 3 door owners agree with your sentiment.

The Thar is special, as it is the cheapest convertible available in India. Soft Top, or Hard, both can be opened quite easily.

Winters are coming, enjoy your 3 door, guys! :)

Mahindra needs to take care of existing Thar 3 door owners, they represented the core brand, and keeping their loyalty is essential.

Techniques suggested are

A) Launch performance upgrades for the 2 engines, as already showcased in the Roxx
B) Mild performance upgrade for the 1.5 Litre too
C) launch meetups, drives, events, like the HOG groups

I'm still waiting for Mahindra to relaunch something actual Off-roader. Not looking for something fancy. Just wanted to have front solid axles with basic features and low gear ratios. Something similar to Land Cruiser 70. They are still providing cable powered accelator in 70 series launched in 2024. You can imagine how raw and tough it could be.

The ScorpioN Diesel 4x4 and the Thar Roxx Diesel 4x4 have so many similarities... choosing between these two can put one in a quandary, as Mahindra has not offered much in terms of price differentiation or positioning differentiation (in terms of customer personas that each SUV may be more suitable for). This means, the customer has to wrack their brain...

Mahindra was very sure about different customers for Scorpio N and Thar Roxx. The main differentiator is the design!
It is slowly dawning on me that Thar Roxx design is too loud for my taste and my profession. If I have both the vehicles in my garage, 99% of the times I will choose the Scorpio N.

Good point. Mahindra should have given a better name than ROXX, something that has certain heft to it, so that it eventually becomes a brand on its own.

Maruti Suzuki started with Swift Dzire and now it is just Dzire. The word Swift disappeared and people also don't connect Swift and Dzire anymore due to difference in front styling.

Imagine having absolute authority over SUVs with Bolero, Thar, XUV 700, Scorpio, etc. and getting to add one more maybe, instead of half hearted attempt like XUV 400 (great car but wrong name).

Agree with you on VFM variant thoughts. Btw, CarPlay is wired in both MX3 and 5.
Probably you too meant so by following:
with Wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play

Oh yes, I meant Wired + Wireless AA and Wired Apple Car Play :D

The new Thar Roxx seems to be exciting, driving a 2009 Accord 2.4AT since 13+ years, would the ROXX Petrol AT AX7L be a perfect upgrade/replacement ? Or should I go for the Hycross/XUV700/Used Camry hybrid. Definitely whatever comes will stay for a decade +. Average yearly running 6000-8000 kilometers only, as my accord has hardly done 77,000 km as of date.

If only they had made a rear door handle like MaXX and a seamless straight roof line above rear door, this would have looked far far more handsome.

These two are really the ugliest parts of the car, explained (rather defended) poorly by Mr. Bose in some video I saw.

The "6 pack" grill too is rather ugly too but I am sure most buyers will anyway replace the same soon after purchase what with the after-market industry for Thar flourishing with so many options.

Beautiful looking car, especially in white colour. How does the ride quality compare to that with Jeep compass.

I had test driven the 3 door thar and found it too bouncy even on smooth tar road. Would the ride quality be similar to the Scorpio N?

For me the car ticks all the boxes except for the unknown... Ride quality, suspension and stability on roads. If it matches with the ride quality of the compass then i would be tempted to buy this one.

Even if it is at par with ride quality and suspension of the Scorpio N i would go for it.

Great review.

Thar is among the best looking, ever-green, and 'always-in-vogue' sort of a vehicle. I first waited for the Jimny, but it's very sight in the flesh was mega disappointing (subjective opinion, no disparage meant) and rather childish.

The 5-door Thar is very appealing. Will just have to wait for Mahindra to iron out the inevitable niggles of their poor QC. I so wish they put some serious efforts in their QC and A.S.S to further bolster the customer confidence.

On the Thar, the pricing is sweet too. Look forward to adding this to the garage with the mods of steel bumper, winch, off-road tires, snorkels, and a good light bar!

Although I am not into off-roading, would still love to get some sort of training to ease navigating around my farm and the farmland.

Have to say this - way to go moving the premium feel up, Mahindra! If we look hard, we might even find a kitchen sink in there somewhere - that's how loaded this one is. Kudos to an all-in launch!!

Being a Thar owner, I see a lot of desirable features in the Roxx, some of which are feedback from Thar owners - grab handles, remote fuel tank release, for example. Others like turn assist, electronic locking diffs, ventilated seats, ADAS, LED headlamps, etc. are all features I wouldn't mind in my Thar.

But what's missing/ not to the mark are definitely not tempting me to swich - white interiors (Really? On a vehicle capable of serious off-roading? Why?!!), no topless options (like the convertible top in my Thar, skyroof not withstanding) are definite deal breakers - esp the white interiors - can't wrap my head around that design decision :Frustrati

Bolero camper is still there but it's not that basic, it has an ECU and emissions equipment. Jimny also has solid axles up front but I don't think that's why people are buying it, if anything it works against that car.

Even in the used market the solid front axle vehicles are rarely favoured for normal use but rather something like farm use instead.

Basic no longer sells in the new car market, I'm not saying it's a good thing but it is what it is.

Are the parts reusable between 5D and 3D ? Wondering if i can salvage below items from 5D accessory department to be fit in to my 3D Thar

1. LED lights (headlights mainly) - I don't need the auto headlight feature though
2. Rear glass with wiper
3. Remote opening for fuel tank lid

I feel Mahindra will refresh the 3D Thar eventually with similar interior and features/spec as the new 5D Thar. This will help them maximize parts reuse across products. In this refresh they may even discontinue the petrol 4x4 in 3D.

In a way i am glad that 5D Thar is marketed to mostly appeal to the urban user who don't need the 4x4. I anticipate most if not all of the 5D Thar sold will be RWD. Along with the fact that 3D Thar sales are going to tank, this will help the 3D Thar to kind of maintain an identity of its own as a hard core niche off-roader couple of years down the line. Will this also work in favor of the jimny? Only time will tell :)

How is the power/torque delivery in 4X4 MT compared to AT 4X4 considering weight advantage in favour of MT?

But the AT is the superior option, it would allow you to enjoy the convenience, additional features without any compromise.

Whether power/weight ratio will be better in MT and also considering maintenence of AT gear box in long run.

Another important feature that seem to be missing is lumbar support.

Reach adjustability for the steering is another important feature which is not provided by Mahindra. This could genuinely have a negative impact on whether people succeed in finding the right/comfortable driving position.
