I have 1.3 MJD, reaching 120 is absolute breeze, above that it takes little time. The max I have reached is 160 on the expressway (i slowed down after that)

Do we have first hand user reviews out for Pete's on 1.3MJD ?
While loads have suggested that they would opt for it beyond 8K kms et all but I am not sure if many have actually gone ahead and done that. It pretty much seems like a 'wait and watch' on the forum, unless I have missed something. Last checked blown turbo's on Swift and Palio were putting people of Pete's (not sure if TB is responsible for it in the first place!)

i trust petes completely. im sure ill get it done within a year of getting my car. ive had petes on my innova for more than 60k kms and its been on level 2. perfectly reliable.
According to the Punto's owner's manual the topspeed for 1.3 MJD version is 165kph, add upto 8-10% of speedo error.
I have touched 160kph with ease a couple of times, i feel it would have gone further a bit.

God. How do you guys manage the car at that speed. I get nervous at high speeds.
I love my punto but there's just 1 irritant. In Delhi, the ac is a must. The ac works gr8 but whenever am in start-stop bumper to bumper traffic, where the car moves ahead at a snail's pace at intervals, the compressor trips and the ac just doesnt cool. Does embarass me at times when am with my friends. No problems when the car is cruising.Any idea what settings do I need to change? I have tried internal recirculation mode, full auto evrything. Any suggestions?

This is one thing I don't get. Some say the 1.4 Fire is great engine in terms of performance. However Both Top gear and Overdrive that i read last year said that it somehow does not show up in the performance of the car. |
Maybe i can help you understand that. If you look at the engines of FIAT. They are never the "Red Light Grand Prix" performers. (Except the S10). All other cars be it with the 1.2, 1.3 or even the 1.6 do not give you the instant acceleration like any other petrol engine with the same specifications would do. The 1.6 Ford Engine on our Fusion would easily win the red light races in 1st and second gears. But once the Fiat 1.6 shifts to 3rd gear. There are not many cars under the 20L category that would really compete.
What does this mean? The 0-60 and 0-100 runs might take longer time than other cars. But what practically happens is that these FIAT engines are so good to drive and in normal on-road driving you could stay ahead of pretty much anything common on the road since the roll-over times in 3rd and 4th would be much better than other cars. Something that most magazines prefer to ignore when talking about performance and especially when talking about FIATs.!!
Another major aspect is that you wont feel that thrill of driving in a rally due to the stability, comfort and confidence the car gives you. Thus psychologically you wont feel you are "performing":D My 1.6 Fusion gives me a feeling speed right from 90-100 range. My adventure would comfortably conceal the speeds even upto 130-140.
To cut it short. If you are a person who wants to feel like in a rally. You really wont like the FIAT engines/cars. If you love driving. There is no match in any near price ranges. Period.
gemithomas: Mind blowing explanation.:)
I am sure you must have cleared the doubts of many.
What mileage can we expect from Punto 1.4 in proper city conditions? Someone clear this doubt too please:

My top speed is 140 and I dont mean touch and go. I retain that speed for majority of the hour on the Mumbai Pune expressway on the straight stretch. And even after, with full AC, the car manages 17.5 kmpl for the stretch. I've read before the car can do 165 but 140 is a speed limit I will not cross.
The beauty of the Punto is realised when you drive at that speed
a) you dont feel as if you are driving at 140. It feels as if you are in double digit speeds
b) the handling is extremely extremely good
c) the braking (when necessary) inspires confidence.
aarenes, you are spot on. Last weekend, I was driving on the NICE expressway in Bangalore with my folks who were visiting us and touched 150 at a point and I asked them to guess the speed. They were very relaxed seeing the empty road and said "maybe 100". When I showed them the speedometer, their jaws dropped. Kids were thrilled and started rolling down the window to see what the air feels like at that speed.
Hello everyone. I have booked a Grande Punto 1.2 Emotion in Hip hop black from KHT Motors, whitefield. I'm expecting the delivery by next week. I would have liked the 1.3 or 1.4, but i was already stretching my budget by going for the 1.2 Emotion. Had checked out the I10 and the A-Star, but once i took a look at the Punto, I couldn't take my mind off it :).

I felt a bit silly when i booked the car and learnt that the Ford Figo is much cheaper . But then i checked this forum and realised that the Punto has this effect on people :) . I think it is the best looking hatch on our roads by far.
