60k kilometre service and a handsome repair bill!

Got the 60k service done almost a month ago. All the persistent issues were addressed and some more(nuisance). Couldn't help being skinned by Chevy A.S.S. as I was down with Jaundice and had to be hospitalised, so was not able to oversee the actual repair work. The total bill for repairs was a handsome Rs.28k! Plus another Rs.8k for the 60k scheduled service. Parts claimed to be replaced included full brake kit, including new discs and drums! Most parts of the clutch (some welding jobs too) and a suspension overhaul. Will scrutinize the invoice and the 3 sacks of replaced parts that the A.S.S. had returned.
The good thing however is that the car feels awesome. The clutch is lighter than it ever was, the brakes took their own time setting in but now feels very confident, all the terrible noise from the suspension is gone, the car now behaves well on uneven roads with a much pliant ride which had gone missing since the car passed the 50k kms mark. The steering feels a lot more nimble too.
Will update with details and pictures in my ownership thread.

28 thousand rupees! :Shockked:

That is a massive repair bill by any means. Having said that, it is good to know that the car is back to being as it should be.

Request you to share the break up as soon as you get time

Folks, have a query / question.

Is there a Fog Lamp on the rear of the Beat ?

I was reading a travelogue and on a SX4, the Rear Fog lamp was switched on due to the heavy fog. So is there such a fog lamp on the rear of the Beat ?

No, beat does not have a rear fog lamp. Someone might have "modified" the central stop/brake lamp into fog light, or installed one.

Wow you paid 28K ! Which service center in Calcutta did the repairs? The breakup of the bill will be helpful.

Can any of the latest Beat petrol owners can confirm if the car comes with drive by wire (DBW)? Mine is 2010 model and it does not have DBW.

Hi Guys,

A quick question:

I had to move out of India suddenly and have sent my KA registered beat to my Dad in Kolkata. Can I pay the tax there and my dad continues to use the vehicle? If yes, how to go about it?

Yes, ofcourse your Dad can use it in Kolkata.

- Obtain NOC from Bangalore RTO.
- Submit documentation for refund of tax paid in Bangalore.
- Update records with the Loaning Bank (if you are under loan) about your new address.
- Submit the NOC at Kolkata RTO.
- Pay the WB Road Tax.
- Get a WB Number (optional I guess)
- Drive your car :)

Apart from my gyaan, you could post your query on below thread for more accurate info.

EDIT: Just saw your post in the other thread. You can expect a response soon.

Thanks Soumya. However, I dont think that Heartbeat is going to stay in Kol for long. So I do not need a WB number. I was thinking something easy (like paying road tax for 2 years in WB ) and then bring the car back in Blr.

Arrey, there is nothing like road tax for 2 years. For a private vehicle (white number plate), you have to pay Lifetime Road Tax. May be some 10% of the IDV. Can be around 25-30 thousand.

Better, if you can get a refund of the Karnataka Road Tax that you had paid when purchasing the vehicle. That would substantiate for some amount of the road tax you pay in WB. Anyways, I'm hopeful that road tax in WB is definitely cheaper than KA. It's daylight robbery in KA.

Picking up a Beat LS black today. Pre-worshipped with 15k on the ODO.

What range should I expect on a full tank of petrol?

My Spark used to give me 465 kms on a full tank after filling around 40-42 litres, way above the auto cutoff.

Expect around 405-425 Kms on mixed conditions on a tankful and with 80% A/C (around 35 litres i guess)

Tanked up yesterday at Shell. Auto cut off limit. This is what showed me on the modded MID.

Thanks!

I filled up 35-litres (approx Rs. 2800/-) and drove 150 kms since then. The first 4 bars of the fuel indicator have already gone away.

I hope that's normal?

There are 16 Bars in the Fuel Indicator.
Fuel Tank Size is 35 Litres.
Fuel per Bar is : 35/16 = 2.18 Litres

Since you drove 150 kms and 4 Bars are gone, that translates to 2.18*4 = 8.75 Litres fuel used.

So effective mileage that you got is : 150/8.75 = 17.14 Km/L clap:
Now thats SUPER MILEAGE :thumbs up
Keep revving and enjoying the Beat Life.

As you filled 35 litres that means you have filled even after auto-cut off limit. Fuel tank capacity of Beat is 35 litres. Low fuel warning indicator glows when ~5 l petrol is left, out of which ~2 l petrol is unusable. If you fill till auto cut off limit just when low fuel warning indicator glows, ~ 30 l petrol is filled. I suppose you have filled 2.5-3 l extra and from my experience with the fuel indicator bars I am sure you are getting FE in the range of 13.5-14 kmpl.
