moralfibre,
I think the 3.0L used for the 525d is not a twin turbo setup, I am not 100% sure of this but I believe only the 535d use the twin turbo setup?
Also did some research online and found the engine .anshuman was speaking of, it goes into production from September 2011 in germany and is a 2.0L unit developing 160 kW/218 hp at 4 ,400 rpm. Peak torque of 450 Newton metres (332 lb-ft) is now available between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm.
0-100 is now at 7.0 Seconds, and fuel efficiency is also improved along with better CO2 emissions.
I believe this will make it into India only from early 2012 as BMW has on order enough previous 525d kits / engines on order to run till the end of this year? But lovely updates and they are also going to update the 530d, data for which I have already posted on another thread but for reference it is now producing 258 bhp and 560 Nm of torque! :D
Regards,

.Anshuman,
What engine block is that would you have more details? Also what markets have already got it? Reason being the german domestic 525d still uses the 3.0L block?

Isn't the current engine a 6 cylinder twin turbo (diesel)? |
525d will now get a 2 litre, 218hp, 450nm Twin Turbo engine downsized from earlier 3 litre 6 pot.

The BMW 525d will get a new four-cylinder diesel engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. This 2.0-litre all-aluminium unit features Variable Twin Turbo two-stage turbocharging and common-rail diesel injection with piezoelectric injectors. The new BMW 525d offers a 10 kW power increase over the previous model, developing 160 kW/218 hp at 4 ,400 rpm. The small turbocharger comes on stream at low engine speeds, while the contribution from the larger turbocharger varies in precise response to throttle requirements. 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration times, which now stand at 7.0 seconds for the Sedan. Average fuel consumption is 5.0 5.3 l/100 km (automatic: 4.8 5.0 litres).

.anshuman,
Thanks a lot, here is the original press release for anyone keen on going through the details, you will need to download it and skip the short version and move to the long version which has all the details, BMW as usual keeps getting better with their engines and a testament to why they are so popular now.

Regards,
I think Indian buyers are going to take to the 525d more than before, most people dont care if its a 6 pot or 4, they are obsessed with bhp and fuel economy. And I wished if it had the sports transmission with paddle shifts and 530ds steering wheel.
If BMW really wants to raise the bar, now is the chance to do it with the new engines. Get rid of the 520d 4cyl and replace it with the 525d 4cyl engine. Get the 530d with updated engine or even the current tune at the price of the current 525d and introduce the mighty 535d at the current 530d or maybe little higher price(that's only if you are willing to give better wheels et all, BMW)
Sahil,
Before Q2 2012 the 525d will get updated as the engine goes into EU production only from october 2011,
520d will not be replaced as it will be placed at the lower end of the spectrum, expect more equipment in it also by then though not a lot.
525d, will get the new engine which while lower in capacity still offers a better performance and fuel economy and should be a lot more fun with the reduced weight on the front, and the car already is equipped quite well with rear screens now which the E250 CDI does not offer and also expect rear ac by then.
530d, will also get the new engine in Q2 like the 525d as those engines will by october be available in the EU. its recently got some funky upgrades like HUD and navigation but expect few things like rear AC etc. And a few connected drive upgrades over next 18 months as BMW India plans to take full advantage of 3G in India.
535d, while possible will take some time as currently for the performance oriented drivers BMW is quite satisfied with the response to the 530d and will take a call at a much later date but no plans as of now.
And about the alloys, they offer the current ones as anything above is 18 inch and with RFT's its a huge drop in ride quality over our roads so for those who need bigger wheels they offer the entire range of alloys via the BMW accessory program, please do visit my thread for the same on modifications and accessories section.

Regards,
I believe the 530d engine will also be updated to the same state of tune as the X3 soon. ( 258 bhp and 560 NM ).
Ecclipse78,
I was told that will happen from march 2012 production including the addition of rear ac is that correct?
Problem is there is no clarity as to exactly when this will happen. I have not heard anything about the rear a/c.
BMW and it's dealers are not as professional as I would expect. Half the time, we keep giving the dealer updates.
Can someone please tell how to check the vin number of bmw 5 F10?
thanks

Check for Wildons thread, he should be able to help. Or if you want to know where it is, usually it will be on top of front right wheel arch near to the strut mounts.
At 141mm isn't the ground clearance of the bimmer too low considering the ANHC has a clearance of 160mm still it scrapes up every speed breaker & is considered as a serious flaw in the car.

Ground clearance is not the only culprit, although it is a major one. The ANHC is probably a lot softer than BMW's which have a stiff suspension for better handling thus it does not really touch. I am not sure what the ground clearance on the E60 is but it does not touch down on our roads, I am guess the F10 will do just fine too.
Add to what Sahil said, IIRC, the extended wheelbase of the Civic and ANHC was another reason for the poor GC.
Having tackled some of the worst speed breakers in the E60, and other Germans, I am sure that the F10 will not be lacking in this department.
Off late, I have started eyeing the F10. I have found some new respect for BMW, with regards to its reliability and ownership costs, and this coupled with the better ride, superb engines, and kit make it seem very desirable as a self-drive car. The handling may not be as sharp, but in a city ridden with potholes, the compromise seems fair (given that it is still the best driver friendly vehicle out there).
Can any one point the differences between the 525 d and the 520 d,
The known differences are
- bhp difference.
-single cd vs 6 cd changer
-twin turbo.
Are there any more differences and which is more VFM?
