Raj

Yes i will be detailing the chassis too.

Sudden setback happened.

My friend who owns this car lost his ailing Mother yesterday evening

I have met her couple of times and i am in deep sorrow for what happened. Aunty May your soul Rest In Peace

Though at this stage, i cant ask him to continue work on the car, maybe i shall take this restoration slowly than the pace i had adopted earlier.

Still for a friend, not to increase any further deterioration on the car, its my prerogative to continue work on the car as my gesture towards my friendship with him.

Further updates on the car will be seen in the coming days, but would sincerely request members to pray a silent prayer to Kiran's mother.

re: 1966 VW Beetle 1200A Restoration

Towed the bug with my humble M-800 all the way to the new location.

After re-location, work resumed at the new place, though Kiran would be in no position for sometime to moniter, or even think about restorations, i did not want the car to lose its pace with restoration or deteriorate futher.

There are very few spots that needs attention, they are treated now.

re: 1966 VW Beetle 1200A Restoration

90% of the body prep job is done, so the car is in a state to go to my mech, where it will be started and test-runs conducted, brakes overhauled, before we start the paint job.

Fenders, bonnet, doors and Decklid being removed for easy transport.

3M Anti-rust coating applied on the underside of the engine compartment to arrest Rust.

Pavan, Really coming along nice. Makes me want one. I would love to have the old bettle or one of the older cars. Could you give me an idea of the entire cost including initial purchase, parts, labor - all inclusive for this vehicle. Also, do you know anyone in Hyderabad who does this as good as you do?

Vij,

This very Bug came from Hyderabad

Costing is very simple, major works being Tinkering and painting. After all these years of experience, i have found out the average costs my team charges for tinkering and painting, here's the pattern.

1) Tinkering - Each panel will cost Rs.1400/-
2) Painting - Each panel costs Rs.3300/-

Each panels are classified as:

a) 2 doors are considered as 2 panels
b) 4 fenders are considered as 4 panels
c) 1 decklid considered as 1 panel
d) 1 Bonnet considered as 1.25 panels
e) 2 rear quarters are considered as 2 panels
f) 1 roof is considered as 1.5 panel
g) other misc., places considered as 1 panel

So we have 12.75 panels all over the car.

Calculate them

Rs 4700 * 12.75 = Rs.60000/-

These are Average costs, and prices vary depending on the kind of condition the cars are in.

Re: 1966 VW Beetle 1200A Restoration

This car came without a rear windshield, while we got one, but forgot to check for its sizes, and when we were about to do our usual Dry-fitting, the rear windshield failed to fit in.

So, here we go all over again, re-doing a welding job.

Hi Pavan,

Great job you are doing on the restoration. Have been going through your various threads on beetle restoration and they are great.

I also hope to have a beetle, i am scouting around for one.

Hope to seek guidance from you if i zero in on one.

Re: 1966 VW Beetle 1200A Restoration

The painter found some more uneven spots on the surface, so work re-started in rectifying them.

Again, its time for sanding down, applying polyster putty, sand it down again. And later will the Final coat of Surfacer + Base coat. By Monday the work should be completed.

Re: 1966 VW Beetle 1200A Restoration

The floor is treated with Anti-rust coating and again, we are not forgetting the much needed Bitumen sheet to add further protection from rusting.

Also got the Paint for the car.. ORIGINAL SHADE FROM DUPONT SUPER LE

A White color with shades of Grey.

Re: 1966 VW Beetle 1200A Restoration

There is a Wierd idea in my mind

Why not work on THE HERBIE LOOK for this car

There is a deep inclination to do this and need to see if my dear friend approves of this idea.
