Hi Pavan good you see your updates

What happened to the sidewall engine that ace_hillman sourced through Karl?

Any plans to fit back the original side valve engine?

Cheers

Sir, in the first page, i have mentioned, The original Sidevalve engine is getting ready, Its Re-Bored, New Valves, New Pistons, New Con/Cam bearings replaced.

Presently the engine is with the mechanic, and he being a stickler for perfection, will easily take one month to get the engine in its firing order

The engine replacement will be done next month, when Avinash is in US.

I am worried of closed booths because 2K paints in particular are very prone to sensitizing one to asthma unless all the protective gear and air supply is used . Unless it is a professional spray booth, open air is actually safer. All the painters here dont bother with safety or quality of finish (horrid workmanship actually). So I am still looking for a solution.

Nitpicking & Thinking aloud: Do the edges of the steel wheels need a little attention? Some areas look as if they need to be tapped down. Is it also possible to mount it on a lathe or even the wheel balancing machine to lightly grind the edges for a clean finish? Perhaps some build up by welding may be required too. May help in the final finish or is it asking for too much?

Your concern regarding the paint is indeed correct, but i always use Dupont Super LE (Low Emission) paints, which infact has almost no smoke/dust/ emission which is harmful to the environment. This paint is so good that you dont even need to use thinner with the paint.

I do most of my painting in open air, Few who can afford the extra cost of booth will infact instruct me to do so, but 90% of painting done in open have given FANTASTIC results.

Regarding the wheels, yes, they need attention, most of the paint chipped during fitting new tyres, they will be detailed before the car leaves the workshop, and That is TOMORROW..

Actually this car came with Trafficators, but the one's on the car did not work, so Avinash (ace_hillman) sourced a good pair from UK, and luckily they are in perfect working order

Work happening in Frenzy, the mechanic, the tinker and the Electrician are working full time for the past 3 rainy days in Bangalore, The engine, starter and the Radiator is giving Hell Lot of issues, but my mech is not deterred, so are the other guys in the team, as they have today's deadline to deliver the car, and my team is BANG ON the target.

re: 1951 Hillman Minx Restored and Delivered

A Very Happy New Year to all

What a New Year present this 1952 Hillman Minx is to all of us and the way you work to a deadline. This year we have a bonus in being able to search for the photographs without having to wade through a whole lot of image numbers. Waiting to see the final photos for the day.

The new tyres with white sidewalls (inserts?) look good.

Fine job indeed, Have used up so many holidays from office.

Have skipped my year end family holiday,

Have been running helter skelter to get things finished.

Though it took ONLY 3 months for this result, its one of those cars, that gave me too much to worry.

The engine was initially running, BUT

1) Had a terrible tuning
2) Made quite a Racket
3) Too much of overheating issue to to faulty radiator fitting
4) All the electricals had failed.
5) Originality was lost over the years.

You can quite say, this ranks amongst one of the fastest restored cars by my team

This is a really good restoration and more so considering the very short time span in which you have completed it in. Congratulations
