Mercedes-Benz W116 made between 1972 to 1980 came as a 280 and the engine was a 6 cylinder inline four stroke. This was the base model of the W116 series. You can check with Wiki.
Its better than a diesel engine, but I would try for an original engine, a V 8.

My bad, I meant to say twin cam straight 6. Somehow, when I visualized the valve covers of the twin cam engine I thought it was a V6. Actually, a friend and I nearly bought this particular inline 6 which I refer to, two years back to plonk it into a W108 280S which had a diesel motor in it. The W 108 280S actually had a SOHC but since we didn't have an option and the DOHC was there, we were going to fit it. But that never happened ultimately because of the potential roblems with the transplant.

You are correct, I was mistaken.

So guys im having a few issues with regards to certain plastic parts for the interior. Some parts of the dashboard are totally shot and I would like to have them in a spanking new condition. Will remoulding these parts out of fibreglass be a good alternative? Im not sure about what the best alternative would be..

Congrats mate. I am really impressed with the quality of leather she has, looks really nice. I am a big fan of the old mercs, the rectangle eyed beauties. W123 is my favorite though.

Why not post pictures of the interior and encircle the parts you are loking for? There are quite a few W116's junking, and most are 280S's. Maybe something will match. Foreign junkyards too are a source.

Cheers harit

Well ive been trying to do that, but what im getting isnt NOS either. Its all used stuff which is in barely better shape than mine. Also theyre asking exhorbitant amounts for used goods which are far from mint condition.
. Ill post pictures of the guilty parts shortly. Cheers!
