Restoration of a '63 Mercedes 190D

At last we managed to restore our 1963 190d,which was a piece of a junk found rotting away in a workshop in Kodungalore,Central Kerala. It had a Mysore Reg,there were major probs with brakes and a worn out gear system,This was in late 2007,Car was towed to Fort Motors,Fort Cochin where it was rotting again going through the monsoon and high humidity for nearly 2yrs,the reason being there was no capable mechanic or workshop for the work.Another reason being we already had an ongoing restoration.. it was a 61'Amby which i posted on Teambhp about 2 yrs back. The Amby is still running strong making occasional trips to Palai,Kerala and Back..Trouble free!!
So after our Amby project we moved the 190D to our workshop in Kattoor a small village about 20kms from Trichur. Our mechanic was Mr Dasan who did a great job on our 190d.I am posting some pictures of how we found the car.......more pics on this thread soon alongwith some details of the work

Re: Restoration of a '63 Mercedes 190D

Hi Dr joe,

Does this car have 'MEE' Registration? If it is the same car, i am very interested in knowing how the gear engaging issue was solved.

Looking forward to more details of the restoration!

Re: Restoration of a '63 Mercedes 190D

Thank you for your interest bhpians ! Well to begin with the car was found on the NH17,about half a km from the Kodungallur Temple before the Kottappuram Toll...Incidently the workshop is still there but i think it is closed down.Yes Mr JayD it is the MEE car...Externally the car looks okay but the car was a total mess, some parts were not in original condition,In fact the gear system was pathetic,We were lucky to get a 200D from Bangalore which was our source of parts. The 200D had some original parts but the chassis was a complete right off.....
So we compared both cars and decided to work on the 190D...So part of the gear system of the 190D is a mix and match of the 200D.Iam posting afew more pictures....one is of the black 200D.
