Re: Mercedes W115 200D: Restoration Project

Hi All, after much deliberation and research done with various workshops I was able to find a very experienced individual who I have handed over my car for the bodywork. The first issue that we are addressing is the rust in the underbody. I have decided to get an entirely new underbody including new wheel arches. The fire wall is also showing some signs of rust, though it looks like it could be salvaged.
The preceding step would be to address the body and get a new coat of paint onto the car.
During this time I was planning on getting the interiors worked upon as the dashboard, seats, door panels, etc would be lying around. Does anyone know a good place for interiors and also a place where the instruments cluster could be professionally restored.
By the way I had mentioned in my previous post about the Becker Europa, well I had ordered a few more parts and they flew in last evening. I did manage to get all the rubber seals. Sharing a couple of pictures!

An original Europa and Hirschmann antenna...this is becoming more and more interesting.

Are the parts ordered online or locally sourced?

Hi bowman, I decided to go in for the original model and make of the radio though I am going to get an aux cable fitted into it and have the radio linked thru an amp. For me the idea is to have the original equipment mated with current technology that we have become so accustomed to so that it's aesthetics are not lost. I can't imagine what I would do for music if had no choice but to only scan for am frequency channels!!
On the sourcing of parts, it's all being ordered online from different websites. I did check locally but had no luck.

Hi Salman, thanks for the heads-up. I am very keen to see the interiors of your car. Do you think you could post a couple of pictures!! If not you could just PM me the details for both these guys and I could go and have a look.
I unfortunately can't send a PM from my account.

Re: Mercedes W115 200D: Restoration Project

You should have steered away from URO parts; they are the worst in the aftermarket;

If those seals door seals; then they may not fit well; and if they do; will not let the door close well

All rubber seals should be only MB new or even old good ones

Just my two cents

Hi Deepak, thanks for letting me know. I didn't catch those reviews on URO parts before placing the order. Anyhow for now I am going to wait and see if these fit in. Else will have no option but to place an order for another set

Re: Mercedes W115 200D: Restoration Project

Seems it is becoming increasingly difficult to source parts for these cars in Delhi. I still have to check out Mumbai though.

Is there any updates on how the URO seals fit or did you return them?

Thanks,

Re: Mercedes W115 200D: Restoration Project

I am yet to try the seals. For now the car is going through a lot in terms of the body work. One of the big issues that had bothered me from the start was a rusty firewall which is also being rebuilt. The floor was flimsy and I got a complete new one done. Along with a lot of other stuff that would have needed replacement in the near future. I could but some pictures of the gutted version of my car if anyone wants to have a look at it now. Or wait for the finished version!!
On the parts I had no success in finding a single thing in delhi and decided to order them online.

Sircarsalot, if you haven't ordered them already, buy all rubber seals, especially doors and windshield seals, from MB only. The price may pinch a bit but in the long run, you'll have no regrets.

If you want, I could PM you the mail id of the gentleman at the USA Classic Center who'll take care of your order (no connection of mine . He's the director of the Classic Center parts department at MBUSA.

Cheers,

mbz180

Re: Mercedes W115 200D: Restoration Project

Hi everyone wishing you all a happy new year. I had been away for a while from the forum as there wasn't much to share in the last few months. Even today, I don't have a picture of the car which is really worth sharing. A lot of work has been going on in getting the car completely rust free. Some things by my metal worker and some by me during my free time.
Here are some picture that I wanted to share!
Cheers!!

Hello Sirkarsalot. It's been over 17 months since your last update. Any progress on the restoration? Please do post pictures. Eagerly waiting.

Really hope your restoration is progressing or complete. Too few W115s left in India sadly.

Re: Mercedes W115 200D: Restoration Project

Hello,

I haven't posted on the forum for years and not sure this is the right place to do so, but here goes.
A dear friend of mine has a W 115 200D in Darjeeling. It was her grandmother's car who shipped it here in the 1970s. It's in running condition but has seen some abuse at the hands of local mechanics. She doesn't want to sell the car but would like some help in keeping it in fine fettle!
So this is just a call to fellow owners, especially any in that neck of the woods. Any pointers to good mechanics in the Darjeeling area would be really appreciated. And any other comments on sourcing of parts, regular maintenance and so forth.

Thank you!

Meraj
