Re: The Film Star: My 1983 Mercedes W123 240D

Hi folks,

These are the pics of some updates done on my car on the weekends. When the interiors were re-done, the rear ash trays and first aid kit slots were completely covered with rexin material. I don't know what happened to the OE ash tray equipment. So, i had to import these all from the USA. I fixed the rear door ash trays without much effort though. First aid kit is still pending as i would need the help of an expert to remove the rear speakers etc.

I also fixed the missing a/c slider knobs and glove box light switch. A/c slider knobs i had to import. Glove box switch i procured from a local junkyard. Also grabbed a beautiful OE MB trunk signal stopper & an idler cable for my beauty. Installed them all.

Also imported a pair of medallions for the front grille. Not planning to put them on always though. Kids would get unwanted attraction on to the front grille

Re: The Film Star: My 1983 Mercedes W123 240D

Here you can see the first aid kit. 30 year old medicines are all still intact. This would be a great addition to my beauty for sure

I also imported a Becker BE1432 Cassette player stereo for my W123. This model came on the later W126 etc models. The basic idea was to use a cassette adapter & play music using an mp3 player. The car now has got a regular JVC CD Player which does not suit the overall aesthetics of a 30 year old car.

But later i understood that this one BE1432 needs an Anti-Theft code to work on. I tried getting the codes via Ebay again by paying money. But none of them seems to work on my unit. I tried atleast 3-4 codes . Moreover, this particular stereo models have the tuner-amplifier units separate in the trunk. Those are also missing to complete the job

For the time being, the plan is to just put it in the dash board to complete the aesthetics and then put a separate mini USB player inside the glove box and make it work. Lets hope the idea is good. Otherwise, this is gonna end up as a useless piece of junk.

Re: The Film Star: My 1983 Mercedes W123 240D

Very nice. I have an original first aid kit for my 1982 W123 200 as well. Not sure how sterile the bandages would be after all these years.

Not sure how the spare parts situation is here in India, but in Europe you can still get each and every part for the W123. Most main stream dealer will stock quite a bit and there are several Spare Part vendors online as well.

Re: The Film Star: My 1983 Mercedes W123 240D

Spare parts are available at select places. They do come at a cost though. Some parts are not easy to get. For eg. I have been searching for a speedometer cable for my car ever since i bought it. No one has got it in stock. Two weeks ago, i ordered it from the US. It just reached me today. Costed me a BOMB.. 4600rs

Re: The Film Star: My 1983 Mercedes W123 240D

Dear Fried and Fellow Member,

Awesome restoration!!!!! Kudo's

You truly must be very passionate about a W 123 like I am.

I know the painful route it takes to restore a W 123. I've been down that Road and some of my cars earlier pics are in your post.

Recently, I did a a small reowk on my cars looks and i feel its seems to have paid off.

Please do have the metamorphosis of my same W 123.

Amazing work Harshad! Your W123 looks straight out of the factory. I love these solid colours on the W123 - they look so much classy. The whites and blacks look very boring on the W123.

With regards to the grille, is this an after market grille? It looks very different from the original grille?

Hi v12,

Thank you for your kind comments.

Its an after market Grill, I picked up in Austria, where I live every year for a few months. I got back and fitted it. Seems to have done a good job. I have retained the OEM grill in case I want to swap.
