My 1962 Willys Station Wagon

I own this 1962 Willys Station Wagon, with original Hurricane petrol engine. All mechanicals have been done up. Any tips for doing up the exteriors are welcome. Thanks

Hello anupamsudden

Great to see your Willys Wagon. I hope you have gone through this site which has valuable info you will need for your restoration.

http://www.kaiserwillys.com/

They have listed the paint colors also here:
http://www.kaiserwillys.com/willys_o...d_paint_colors

Do post more pictures of your vehicle, especially of the engine bay etc. Do you know what was the original factory color of your vehicle? I hope you take it back to the exact look it had when it rolled off the assembly line. Good luck and keep us posted.

Dear Anupamsudden - hello to you. The vehicle looks very nice, so congratulations for all the hard work that you have put in. I have information on the following station wagons, which I am sharing with you:

1. MRX8592: It was owned by M&M R&D and was used by Mr.S.Ramachandran, the then GM(R&D), driven by his driver Mr.Achuten. It was also 1962 model. The color was medium dark blue. It had the Hurricane engine. I had seen it between 1980 and 1983. It was maintained by a garage in Santacruz East near the airport. I remember that Mr.Ramachandran had once sent me to the garage to get it. It drove absolutely superbly, totally silent!
2. BMFsomething (I forgot the number, it may be 7026 but I am not sure, sorry): It was the personal vehicle of Mr.Sushil Waman Welingkar, who was the head of Product Engineering in M&M Kandivli. It was light green in color. It had the Hurricane engine. I had seen it between 1980 and 1983 in M&M Kandivli.
3. I do not know the registration number: It was the wood panelled model, in light and dark brown color combination. I do not know who owned it, but I had seen my aunt's friend Mrs.Dina Lilaowalla driving it around in Dadar Parsi Colony, Mumbai. It had the 6 cylinder Tornado engine. As a kid I remember that it used to glide, not just move! .

In my opinion, your vehicle should have the same color as MRX8592. You should also source the original tail lights and put them back.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

MRX 9824 and 9825 were also 62 model wagons with Mahindra incidentally.

Dear Karl - thanks for the memory jog, not bad I say! . I have never seen MRX9824 and 9825 in use with, or parked at M&M. This is the first time I am knowing about these numbers.

Best regards,

Re: My 1962 Willys Station Wagon

I must admit Behram sir, you do have a sharp memory. I have a question which is not at all related to this thread. And I apologise to the OP for hijacking his thread.

Did Mahindra import a Jeep Wagoneer / Super Wagoneer for testing / personal usage? I remember seeing 2 Wagoneers at their workshop some years ago. One of them I think had a V6 or a V8 badge on the front fender. Seemed to be a loaded version since it was an Automatic, had 2 tone paint, roof rail/carrier, AC and music system. The other one may have been a basic lowest version - probably a 4 cylinder.

The Super Wagoneer looked exactly like the one below (except for the alloys)

The other one was a lower spec'd one without the 2 tone paint, roof carrier and side trim.

They were resold in the 60s/70s itself.

Yes, both survive and last I was told were being recommissioned. Very original complete unrestored cars.

Re: My 1962 Willys Station Wagon

Thanks Karl, yes both of the Wagoneers looked completely original including the interior and trims. Good to know that they are being recommissioned. Any pics of either of the Wagoneers?

Dear V12 - hello to you. There were 2 Wagoneers, a lovely V8 fluid drive automatic LHD in red and white / silver color combination, fitted with 6.70*15 size Ceat Safety Drive tires with superb original chrome wheel caps and a V6 manual RHD in blue color, fitted with 7.00*15 LCV tires without any wheel caps. The V8 was MRZ8496 (I am not too sure of the number) and the V6 was MRF7346. Then there was MRJ289, a dark blue Mitsubishi Jeep 4WDRHD imported from Japan, which was maintained by Metro Motors, and MMB7852, an orange Fiat132GLS1600ClimatizzataRHD which had carburettor leakage issues. There was an LHD as well, but I have seen it only once, so I don't know the registration number.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Re: My 1962 Willys Station Wagon

Anupam,

Nice to see a restored station wagon, you have done a very good job. The color is definitely not going with the wagon.

By the way did you purchased as is, the registration seems to be CG07 which is Durg (I hail form CG04). Where do you currently reside.

Also please post more pictures of the beauty.

Dear MAnish, I am in Punjab, the wagon is in Dehra Dun. Purchased from a fellow who had picked it up from Durg. I got it in this colour ( it was a part of an ad shoot). As I said, I'm waiting to do up the exteriors...Thanks

Re: My 1962 Willys Station Wagon

I had also found one Willy's

Station Wagon from some government department. 7-8 years back its condition was very good. But weathering effect is deteriorating its condition day by day. If it is put on sale/auction I will definitely like to try my luck.
