Re: My New Year Purchase : 1959 Fiat Select

Look for the original colour behind/under the dashboard, as these car's were hand-painted during that era at the factory.

Left side is almost done:

Removed the dealer plate to inspect for original colour, nothing much found.

Any updates on the car? Could you manage to find the original color? Excited to see the progress.
All the best

Nothing major, with the left side completed, work is happening on the right side. Body was scraped and repainted at some point and even on removing the dealer plate haven't found any such traces, steering box would be removed once right side rust repair is completed.

So happy to hear that, my grandpa's fiat at home is from 1956, since we had it from day one I know the history of it, although I did not see the first shade, except in a b/w picture but I did see the second and the third shade.
The car at home is a family member, my grandma gave her a name "pichki" meaning a tiny bird.
The first color was black, then somewhere around late 70's it was painted maroon and then in the 90's to cosmic green.
I guess the car was scrapped completely when the 3rd shade was applied but recently I could manage to find the black shade in one of the doors.

It does have the original seat upholstery " brown leather seats" underneat the seat covers.
I can imagine it must have looked pretty, black color car with brown leather seats.

Unfortunately seats also have been re-upholstered removing the original fabric so there's no way to know that also. Let's see as the work progresses what comes out.

Original Colour found finally, under the bonnet light where it was most prominent. My New Year Purchase : 1959 Fiat Select-img_20250214_123910.jpg

The steering box was opened yesterday while I was not there and they scraped the area off so could not find anything there. Behind the rubber cover which closes gap between firewall and cabin there were some traces but nothing major to make out.My New Year Purchase : 1959 Fiat Select-img20250214wa0020.jpeg

Beautiful, Congratulations I am so happy for you. Detective's job is finally done.
Are you planning to match it with the original color?

Good find, I think this was the creamish/yellow colour which quite a few Fiat of that time had.

Hmmmm, never mind, something better than nothing. If I was you may be I would show some creativity on the upholstery. May be its a sign she ( Car) wants you to do something creative.
