Hi there all you vintage motorbike and scooter fans , wanted to share some thing with you guys , Last year I persuaded my father to let me restore his 1969 Honda cub 50 that was his first personal form of motor transport, he used it throughout his years in college and then it was put in storage. Even as a little kid I had heard about my father’s Honda 50 but had never seen it that is till one day I opened up the store and saw it. This magnificent little machine just parked there for the past 34 years. during the restoration I wanted to keep it as original as I could as I wanted to preserve my father’s memories with it so I left the original paint on it with all those dings and scratches as they give it a personality what I did replace were the plastic and rubber parts that were showing age and I also got the engine completely overhauled.

Wow!! That is really cool. Glad you left the paint and dings and scatches. Post some pics if you can. What is the wheel size in the cub?

Yup and besides i think the paint was in pretty good shape just that it has turned just a bit orangish over the 39 years of its life. here are some pics of when i took it out will post other pics of it in sequence so that you guys can also see the restoration process.

Nice moped, best of luck for your restoration.

Keep the restoration process coming.

One of my mechanics has this Cub 50 and it is also in a dismal stage.
Whats your resporation plan and how do you plan to acquire the original parts?

hi, nice do you know what year your mechanic has ? as i said earlyer the resto has been done , any way the plan was some thing like this first get the engine sorted out and see if it runs good then do the cosmetic parts still working in getting some of the cosmetic details just right . parts arent a big problem there is still quiet an inventory of NOS parts as well as reproduction parts here in Pakistan . Old cubs are still running around Karachi and parts arent to difficult to get hold of .

A few more pics , My father is very good at keeping things organised and didnt take him more than 5min to take out some of his honda cubs stuff like the original keys and the owners manual .. the owners manual has a bill of sale dated back to 1969 when my grand father bought him the cub for 2100 Rs ONLY which at that time would have been the same in Indian Rs .

Good job in keeping it original to preserve the look/memories/patina -- while getting it in running condition. The paperwork is in great condition.

B

It dosent look like a patina any more in the pics atleast but still makes dad and me happy.

this is the first stage where i removed all the plastic parts and other delicate parts.

I started getting parts for the c50 in the process I decided to stick to NOS Honda parts for the restoration, so the search went on and eventually I found a dusty little shop that had and amazing stock pile of vintage Honda Yamaha and Suzuki parts ,it wasn’t a specialist shop they just had a stock pile of stuff that never got sold so I was in luck got some really juicy genuine parts. So I bought a the period engine components and some rubber and plastic parts like the leg shield and side covers .

Sam: Would the same shop have parts for the Honda CB or CL series, the 350 cc? Are you from Indiana?
