I have zeroed in on a 1966 Fiat 1100 Delight which is in mint condition. The engine is like blow torch through butter.Rest of the car is simply a marvel.
Only attention needed is:
- Getting a fresh coat of paint
- Chanding the front windshield as there are scratches.

My questions to all the Fiat owners & Bhpians:
- What colour should i get the car painted in?
- Will a dual shade (roof & body) suit this car? I already have a 62 1100 super select in red and white dual shade.

Await your suggestions.Thanks.

No. Dont do a dual color Paintjob. Instead, go in for a Period Paintjob. Something like what MRF 6466 Has. Or a blu that Karl's Delite has.

Yeah Cyrus.I dropped the idea of a dual tone.but i want to get a real distictive paint:
Few options i had that came to my mind was:
- Lilac Purple
- Turquoise green
- Milky Cream

Wow hillram you lucky dude ! A delight has been on my wishlist for a looong time:). I personally feel delights look best in dull colours, like shades of grey. I LOVE two tone fiats, and your SS has been a huge inspiration for me in my resto. Maybe you could have a light grey and white like this-

I have seen the pic you attached. But i have booked a Tata Nano with almost the same colour, soi want the 1100D tobe more3 psychedelic.

Congratulations Ram on finding that rare Delite in pristine condition.

As discussed on the phone, my vote is for that cream (more common in the Selects) as well as a deep black.

In two tones - I saw a dark green body with an off-white top. It suited the car very well and made it look distinctive.

If more psychadelic is what you want - stick with that Lilac.
Cheers,

Incidentally, this car was originally a strawberry pink colour, which was offered on early delights. But looks like nobody who had cars in this colour stuck with it, repainting it in more "sober" colours, including the previous owner of this car! :)

That 'strawberry pink' was quite popular in the earlier S.selects, millicentos etc. and those cars looked very good in it. I do not recall seeing the pink on a 1100D. If one can get a good paint job using quality paint it should look good on the Delite.

Cheers,

Dont you think the Strawberry pink, also Lilac are feminine colors.
Would they suit my profile...need to pull my hairs now(very risky too)

LOL Ram, you are the one who wanted something more psychadellic!

For your profile, stick to black or cream or the regulation white of Fiat. To jazz it up and give it that classic look go in for whitewall tyres.

Cheers,

I know Raveendra.Psychedelic means it should stand out.Im thinking of a green colour too. Will try to simulate on Photoshop and see first.

Ahaa.....I knew that when stating something to a lawyer, you need to present EVIDENCE! :D
So here I have it, photographic evidence of the delight seen by ram showing traces of the original pink paint the car was in, plus a few of a '65 Delight I had owned for a while, also originally in the same shade of pink, later repainted in that beige/biscuit colour. Then there was another '65 Delight that originally was this colour, repainted a similar greyish colour, sadly scrapped:

'hope that settles it! Case closed! ;)

Jokes aside, I did see a pink select/superselect as well, in a 60s Hindi movie. It looked too pale compared to this shade though, almost a lavender shade.......or may have been the quality of the film.

Definitely, the pink colour was offered. My neighbour had one for years together.

However, I have another view on the pictures you've posted. Ive seen atleast 4-5 65-66 Delights with this shade underneath - I have a feeling it is an undercoat of some sort. What confirmed it with me was this.

The car is in Pune - a 66 model, still one owner, in original paint, a very light grey/blue/green, similar to your/my 67 Fiat, ATX 2927. See the pink colour visible near the catch. Similar spots are visible elsewhere on this and other cars as well.

Karl,
The shade sure is the same as on the cars I've posted.
But I can say, from the finish of the paint, that it wasnt an undercoat but an actual paint. Also if it were an undercoat it should've been present on all such cars when the paint was scraped off. But I have never seen/heard of it so.

Perhaps the car you pictured was indeed white. But now that I think of it, all 65-66 Delights with the vents in the dash that I have seen have this pink undercoat. Eitherways, the car I posted definitely is original paint with pink undercoating. Strange.
