PICS: VW Beetle

Hi Bhpians,

I am starting this thread relating to VW Beetles (OLD).
@ Mods - If necessary, please shift this topic to a different thread.

I was at Colaba, Mumbai. I was accompanying my sister as she had a medical entrance exam. We had to reach early as reporting was 1 hour prior to the exam time. I dropped my sister off at about 8.45am on a Sunday. Me and mom went to McDonalds to have breakfast and around 10am we reached Colaba causeway.Thought we could do some shopping etc.
This was near Leopold Cafe. I came across this bunch of old VW Beetles.
I think it was an Beetle enthusiasts meet
Some snaps.

Yup, that's the Bombay Beetle Club having one of their many drives. A great bunch of people, extremely helpful to fellow Bug owners.

sameern.85, thanks for sharing the pics. Especially pic #2 which is absolute nirvana!!
Colaba causeway, Apollo street, Rampart row, Gateway of India and all the several "gulleys" around there sum up an automobile enthusiast's wet dream. Even on the dullest of days, one would get to see a minimum of a couple of exotics to say the least.

There used to be a dark green W123 Mercedes with GB sticker at the rear parked at the corner of Cafe Mondegar which was a frequent sight. Haven't seen it around for awhile. Harit can tell us about it.

Does anyone know of a "Herbie" lookalike in Mumbai with the grey paint, red-white-blue stripes, #53, et al?
I'd spotted that one at Kurla West in a workshop which probably is a VW Beetle specialist since there were another couple of those being worked upon.

That livery always gets me to thing about one more Bug purchase.

Looks like a 63/ 64 Bug to me... It has got lot of original bits, BUT

1) Missing front bumper guards.
2) The fender indicators are add-on.
3) Missing reverse lights on the rear bumpers.

No doubts about that car being one of the cleanest Bugs seen.

Also that Maroon Bug belonging to Mr Shirke, is too original to say, I had an opportunity to go for one nice drive in that car, Man....! what a nice run it gives.

This looks like an Euro bug and the amber fender indicators are original for 64 to 67 models and it was the same one for VW1200 euro models till 73.
The reverse lights(back up lights) was never OE on the bugs till 1968 ,
they were accessories only and so that cannot be called lack of originality,

I think she is a 64, but will confirm. The front bumper guards are present, not fitted at time of photo. Fender indicators were standard fitments from 58 onwards. Reverse lights were never fitted to cars this early.
