Seems like GAZ 69 (1953-55) a.k.a UAZ69 (1954-72) but windshield & indicators on the front wheel bumpers are different.
Also it was produced between 1953-72 unders different names as mentioned above & not in 1942 as told by the salesman. Interestingly it was also built as 4x4.

As sonu said, the vehicle's a GAZ, a Russian Jeep (kind of)

There are quite a few surviving in India. 'would be interesting to know how they all made it here.

The windscreen is a custom fab job must have bee the result of original windscreen glass breakage at some point.

Other than that it looks quiet immaculate and original...love the littler round red badge with the hammer and sickle

Incidentally, I used to see one often at the Ramanthapur/Amberpet area, painted maroon then.
Later it disappeared from there and I saw it again one day, on the road in the same area, painted in a different colour, used for some political campaign.

This thread has got me digging more into Russian cars & here are some really interesting pics.
A GAZ pulling a Land Rover out of snow ditch
I also wonder how that "small red car" in the middle will survive in 4x4 terrain?!?

Dear Mr Stanher....you are right. Quite a few of the GAZ 69's were gifted by the USSR Army to India. 2 upmarket versions were given to the then President and PM. 1 remained in the Presidents estate and another was sent by the then PM - Pt Jawaharlal Nehru at the inauguration of the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad. in 1977 - my Dad a IFS Officer was posted as the Director of the NZP and this became his Official Vehicle. I was a Class 6 student then and my Dad was posted here for 4 years and we had full and complete use of this vehicle before being replaced by the just released M&M CJ500DP-101. This car of course in the next few years was condemned and sold as scrap.

But I remember this vehicle very well, with its very powerful engine, pneumatic wipers, powerful lights, mech brakes, pedal push starter etc and Lefthand drive.
