1929 Mercedes Kit Car Project

Guys,

Help with whatever information can provide for the following car. I came across a sale board for this 1929 Mercedes Kit Car project.

Details as given by the seller:

Fiberfab kit. Similar to image below.
Bought this about 15 years ago and didn't get a chance to complete the dream.
NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED.. BODY NOT ATTACHED TO FRAME YET.
Has been stored away nicely in a garage.
All parts are effectively new.
Have all parts, nicely wrapped, to complete project.
**Chassis was professionally built by a mechanic, and wired by an electrician.
Engine/drivetrain from a very low mileage Chevette (4cyl).
Comes with Chevette title, and step-by-step assembly manual.

No tire kickers. Serious only.

I have couple of questions

1. What is kit car project?
2. Is it possible to bring this car to India from USA?
3. How much is worth for this car?

1.) Kit car is building a car from the knocked down kit, usually it is the copy of a famous car, which otherwise one cannot own. The kit car comes cheap and has a donor for mechanical aggregates.

2.) Yes it is very much possible to bring to India, but you have to bear the shipping and customs . But you cannot register the same in India, the rules do not permit of the same.

3.) The kit does not have any brand value, and it's on the populartiy of the model it is based on decides the price, altogh the quality also plays a bit of the role.

Re: 1929 Mercedes Kit Car Project

Trammway, first rule is to avoid buying anyone else's abandoned project. And one that's been ignored for a whopping 15 years, RUN AWAY in the opposite direction.

Kit car manufacturers will always sell you the parts, and never a fully-built up piece. Because, in the latter case, they will get sued for copyright violations by the manufacturer of the original car. As Manish posted, most kits require a donor car for the chassis, engine etc. (though, not all do).

I must admit....some kit cars have such astonishingly good quality, that even enthusiasts like us can get fooled into thinking it's an original.

BTW, India is already home to some kit cars. Here's the first one I've ever seen:

Interesting Question and very precise replies.

So even if one does spend all the money required, the pleasure can still not be ours ?
Because the rules just don't permit to register it !

Thats quite strange in its own perplexed way.

But very interesting concept of replica cars.
I had once read a report of a guy in Hungary making only Ferrari replicas & selling it the world over !

Well, till then I am happy with my scale models !
