Restoration of a 1937 Austin Ruby

One day my grandson's classmate brought his grandpa to see my Vintage collection of restored cars. He requested me to restore his family owned 1937 Austin Ruby, a rare 2 door saloon with sliding full roof top. My passion for restoration of these vintage beauties did not allow me to refuse him. Attached are the pictures at various stages of restoration on this rare car.

The owner should refine it further and replace the headlights, tail light and the tyres as and when he gets them.

Nice job and a good looking car, how does it run ? The Austin monogram above the grille has been placed upside down !

Please post some pictures of that red car in front, is it a Simca ?

The paint job on the Simca is superb and really suits the car. It appears to be a Fiat Balila made under license by Simca, does it it a Fiat engine or is it a Simca engine.

Awesome work, Congrats! In the first 2 pics the car looks like it was taken from the ocean bed . The final pics are so beautiful I wish I could afford one.

Re: Restoration of a 1937 Austin Ruby

very nice austin, i would have just done the mechanicals and retained the paint on the body and just painted the fenders perhaps, assuming it was in original paint. the colour could have been better matched to the original. the headlamps it seems were replaced earlier in the cars life so i would leave them as is, but i would paint the headlamp shells and wheels black. overall a very presentable car, much better than most ruby's iv seen here.

Re: Restoration of a 1937 Austin Ruby

Thanks.Headlights have been replaced with another set of LUCAS as the originals were reported stolen from the owners courtyard very many years back.Since i could not arrange for the white wall tyres hence to give the contrast i changed the colour of the wheels-
