Need help about AUSTIN 7 engine

Hello guys,

I am a very inactive member of Team-BHP and don't post much. Now, I need some help from all you vintage car fans. My friend owns a 1928 Austin 7, which is in quite a restorable shape. He started the restoration work some time back from the engine, but unfortunately, the piston rings broke and were stuck inside the ring grooves on the piston, and the grooves got further damaged when the mechanics tried to hammer them out. From then on, the car's been gathering dust again.

We have planned to start the restoration again and so, we need to know where we can get the pistons from in and around Chennai or for the matter, anywhere in India? Is there any other solution to the problem? I will soon be posting the pictures of the damaged piston and the whole car. Waiting for a solution and a good reply from all of you.

Hey baddy, check with Pudupet first.
If u dont find there, hook up with any of the classic car owners. They got a club where they help each other in restorations. So, u might get lucky.

parts for austin seven are cheap and plentiful on ebay uk, the only issue is postge cost on heavy items. i have seen brand new hepolite piston sets selling for as low as 15 pounds, which is much cheaper than what most dealers charge here. i have bought several items on this site which worked out cheaper including postage costs, than prices demanded for inferior items here. for example, a brand new fresh stock brake master cylinder for my karmann ghia cost me 1200 rupees total from abroad. the one guy in delhi who had it wanted Rs3500, and the seals would have needed replacement.

Sorry for this reply after so many years now. Can we see some pics of the engine and also has the restoration progressed any further ? The enigne parts for this car can be imported from the UK. Getting parts for old cars has become really difficult nowadays. So that seems to be the workable option.

Let me know if i can help you in anyway in the restoration of this car.
